Coast to Coast trip over the holidays

Mike H. and I are taking this:

http://www.eastcoastrover.com/110SW4sale.html

From Maine to California [picking me up in Buffalo] with some stops during the trip (TBD but moab for sure). Starting the 26th and ending the end of the first week in January and then flying back.

Any advice? Anyone point to a quick primer on SU trouble shooting I can print out and take with me?

Anyone know if an 84 110 has an LT95 or LT85?

we'll be out in Moab then, 28th-2nd and maybe a few more days after that. We'll be staying at the Moab Big Horn lodge ($40.95/nt) since it is too frickin cold to camp (and the days are too short)

LT95 - the LT85 was introduced in about '86.

How you can tell 100% is that the CDL lever is in the seat box. Remember to use it if you go offroad!!!

They'll be a few of us from the Solihull Society out there during that time as well. We chose to stay at the Red Cliffs lodge. A little more pricey, but they assured us the bar and restaurant would be open both Friday and Saturday nights (New Year's Eve). Given Moab's reputation for parties, we wanted to make sure we were walking distance to a bar for New Year's Eve.

Pretty sad when the VFW moose lodge or whatever that place was in Leadville put on a better party that the entire town of Moab can muster.

Just remember to get to the liquor store before Noon if you want anything to drink in Moab

I am just grumpy that I do not get to go

I'll BMOB
Party? Elks lodge? Leadville? Karoke? I don't remember anything of the sort..
What happens in Leadville Stays in Leadville.

Karen is looking into renting a house (for many) if anyone is interested..

We'll have the kids (at least one) so one of us will need to remain responsable.

We'll be there the evening of the 29th leaving on the 2nd. I think the rest of the folks are planning on arriving the evening of the 28th.

As I mentioned to Mike, If I'm around and you break down... ah need a rest, my shop/home is yours..

Keith - have you looked at doing anything with P38 axles (yet)? My latest concern is that with all the bolted on weight I now get to start breaking axles.

Nothing with the P 38 Axles yet... I've never even had one apart... Really all I need is measurements and details.. I could easily build up a pattern and have them made.. If you have time to sit down, take your axles out and call me we could easily get you what you need.. Got calipers?

Something that comes to mind... The Axles in the P38 RR have unit bearings at the hubs... Pardon my ignorance but is this also the case with the Defenders?

I've got calipers, but I would be afraid to take the measurements and then have you do it. Too easy for it to be screwed up because I didn't measure it right. Besides, you would need to see inside the axle tube to see how much additional thickness the axle could take I think?

Who's a good junkyard to buy a set of shafts from?

Uhhhh I dunno... I'm mostly going along for rest and relaxation. At this point it looks as if my better half will be needing to work on the 30th. Screwing up previous plans... I may stay a day later then..
Near as I can tell though, the group from here is going to be mostly D2's with minimal mods so I figure the trails they choose to take will be more on the easy/moderate side. Good drivers just mellow cars.

Spare P38 axles? Hmmm here's another good question... Not sure about that either.. There are a number of specialized Rover Wrecking yards but I don't know enough to say that even the track width is the same on the P38 RR VS the 110 in the later models... I will have a close look at your truck and I'll try and figure what's going on with these P38 alxed trucks..

More worthless today than usual I guess

I wish I'd known you needed that info, I've had several apart lately. What measurements do you need?

Okay, we'll see you in Moab then. Just got the P38 engine put back together. Larry @ RCH ported and polished w/ new exhaust valves. Engine only had 65k on it, but the difference is noticeable.

We've got reservations at the Big Horn. Checking in on the 27th and leaving on the 3rd (unless we decide to stay longer or are waiting for repair parts to arrive. )
