africa in May

Hi
We are doing a self drive safari in Africa starting from Windhoek, Namibia on May the 10th. We are going through the Namib desert, sossusvlei, swakopmund and Etosha, From the Caprivi we are going into Mahangu and Moremi and the Okavango delta. From there we are going to do the Zambezi river rafting(grade 5 rapids) and end the trip at Victoria falls from the Zambia side.
(May 23)
We have 2 open seats available to cut down costs. All other accomodation is already worked out. We got the vehicles, we need drivers!
All in Land Rover td5
Please contact me for more details.

Hi
We have arranged the full itinerary. $2200 US will get you the whole thing. All is included in Land Rover, fridge etc. We have 3 vehicles. You do the driving. Also included gas, maintanance, meals, accomodation, entry fees to Game parks. 3700km of safari drive. We planned the trip for May but had some cancellations. Mostly Canadians with 2 guys from the states.

I hope that price includes the $1500 air ticket from JFK to Windhoek (or Cape Town or Jo'burg). Otherwise, your prices are a "tad" high. Have fun in the Caprivi. Hope the nice little conflict there is finally over, with Jonas Savimbi finnally offed by the MPLA.

Old Scout,
Spent more than half my life living in Southern Africa. Been to most of the places he mentioned, and would reccommend the trip to anyone. But, remember that current exchange rate from US dollers to SA Rands is 12 to 1. I could a shitload more down there with R26,000. Just my opinion.

Local knowledge is a very powerful tool, I'm sure I could show a bus load of Japanese tourists San Francisco,Napa,Yosemite for much less than they pay a Japanese tour company. So what's your point?

Local knowlege has "nothing" to do with it. I have just emailed a friend of mine to keep me honest. He runs trips out of Windhoek in 75 and 60 series Land Cruisers [heavy sarcasm]not the "ultra-reliable TD5"[/heavy sarcasm]. I asked him to quote me what he would charge an average American tyourist for a similar trip, based on Jaco's descriptions. Once he replies, I will post it, and either eat crow and shut up, or not.

Thanks for all the info, your'e a great help.
Just make sure it includes 14 days on the ground. Youre vehicle and gas for 3700km. Youre guide through these 3 countries with 12 years safari experience. All meals accomodation in lodges and camping. You do the driving, you don't just sit in the vehicle and have someone else do the driving.
I don't think it's a bad price if you can do better, let me know.
Thanks again partner!

If you pimp your shit on PBB, expect comments, both good and bad. It's the internet, everyone has an opinion, and tends to share it. BTW, your welcome.

Eating Crow

So this is my official apology to Jaco. My friend in Windhoek got back to me, and it seems like the prices I was going on were what he charges the locals, due to the devalued currency. He said that they charge Americans a much higher rate, due to the fact Americans will willingly pay it for an "African Adventure'. He called it the rape factor, I call it what the market will bare. His price was within a couple hundred of Jacos.

[On Soapbox] I am sorry Jaco! [/On Soapbox]

I will leave you with a quote from what I said last time Jaco was pimping his business.

I never been to Africa so what I say don't take it serious. Is Africa kind of dangerous for an American?

The Africa trip looks pretty cool. Too bad I'm poor. US$2200 = C$3,475

I also checked out your itinerary for the Arctic trip. You really should add an extra day in Dawson City. It is easy to spend half a day in the museum alone. Most of the historic sites are only open during the summer season but I'm they will open the doors for you if you tell them you have a tour group going through.

Namibia

Namibia is one of the safest places in Africa to visit, also for Americans. Great relationship between the 2 embassies, a country almost half the size of Alaska with less than 1.5 milj people. Very safe, very beautifull. I am an ex-Namibian living in Canada now. Almost all my familly still live there. Former German colony with great German beer, 20c US buy you a great beer!
Desert scenes like no where else. Okavango delta and Victoria Falls just as great!
