Check your motor and T-case mounts!!
I just got done installing 4 new engine/tcase mounts in my 97 D90.
After fixing an exhaust leak (actually a broken exhaust manifold bolt) I was roaming around under the 90 looking for broken crap. I always seem to find stuff that needs to be fixed after a big run like the CC. Low and behold, all 4 motor/tcase mounts were completely sheered. And the engine was tilted about 5 degrees in the mounts. These mounts are a piece of crap. They are just two disks of steel with a 1" pad of rubber between them. If the rubber breaks, then the whole thing gives way. Anyway after cussing, hammering, grinding, hoisting, crowbaring, impact hammering, BFHing, and simultaneously bottle jacking/hoisting/floor jacking, I finally got all four mounts in place. Next time this bitch is going to the shop for replacement of motor mounts! What a fawkin pain in the ass (especially by your self). The new mounts have a new heat shield from LR which is supposed to protect the rubber from the heat coming off the exhaust manifolds. We shall see. Later, Blister ps. Also got the GBR 4.75's and front and rear ARB's installed this weekend with Alan D's help. Can't wait to take it out and drive around with the lower gears and some new big tires. |

at Uwharrie last year one of the guys in a grey market 90 sheerer 3 of the four mounts and it tilted the engine enough to lock the throttle WIDE OPEN.
He shut it off as the poor V8 screamed. Had to tow him back to camp with the series which although its mounts are broken as well seems not to be anyway adversely effected by it. ![]() TDi mounts seem to be better if it is any consolation to you. Ron PS my 88 Rangie had a heat shield over the exhaust mount so why is it only now that rover came up with it for the D90?

18 months ago, I was 4x4ing and high centered on my transfer case. I knew I had trouble when my transmission shift lever almost hit the dash (the whole engine transmission transfer case assembly lifted up in the rear).
This was early in a hard run and it ran fine for the rest of the run. When I got home, I found 3 sheared engine mounts. Needless to say, these got replaced and a very stong transfer case skid plate was put on. Rich |

Ray Torres, who lead our Saturday run at the last CC, is having tread/sideway separation problems with his new (a few months old) 38.5x12.50 SX's. This is first I have heard about problems of this kind with the SX's. However, I have heard that the SSRs have similar problems in the 37" size.
