Pass offset D60 questions
Woo hoo,
found a yard that has some of the appropriate vehicles. Just had to ask the right people. how much offset is the one you have oldscout? The ones I found are not as offset as the pic of the one Josh C posted but I did not take my measuring tape (I forgot it along with my raincoat so I am going back with tools to get one on friday) Do I want dodge or ford? 3/4 or 1 ton or does it not matter. Edit: it looks like the 1 tons maybe D70s and some not offset It is edit: in a yard which I am not disclosing until I pilfer it of all the good stuff ![]() Thanks Ron

Hey Adam,
what do you know about this stuff (I am not busting on you I need to know)? The offset 70 (I think) might be too wide. Besides a tape measurer does anyone know of an "ideal" donor? some of these have dana 61s which as I understand it is bad. I did not see one with a 6 banger so 4.10s are out I guess. If I had not forgot my coat and had it not been raining I would have played with them all. I think I can tell a 60 from a 70 based on the case but how do I tell a 60 from a 61. Thanks Ron

hey ron in any case you will need to have the axle narrowed... i am pretty sure most of these vans have a WMS measurement of somewhere around 65-67". stock coiler rover is 62" as Bill R pointed out to me
![]() so since you have to narrow it anyways, i would just go with a 70. the offset will not be correct for the transfer case, so what i would do is cut down the short side more than the long side to narrow it. this will effectively move the pinion over to the pass. side of the vehicle more, where you want it. it sounds like a lot of work, but it really isnt. and i wouldnt worry about the factory 4.10s, you can buy them on Ebay cheap anyways. and if you lose hope and just want to go with a centered rear diff i have a 64" WMS 4.10 ratio D70 that i will sell you heheh i do not know how to tell a 60 from a 61 but i *THINK* it might be stamped in with the BOM number on the axle. good luck with it, and hope to soon see you sportin a nice 60 rear! |

FUK 9 volt you don't need a boat anchor D70. The 60 will handle anything a Rover can throw at it!
I have a and a tape measure, I heading to the shed. back soon.

Thanks old scout.
10in! damn. Thats a lot. The dodge looked like less. I am NOT going to narrow it. My plan is to find a nice full width D44 front to match. I mean what is the point of upgrading the rear when the front is the real POS. Ron

The 61 stuff didn't start showing up untill 75 or so. The webbing will have a 60 or 61 cast into it. It's real easy to tell.

thanks.
I think I may get up early and head over tomorrow. The ones I were looking at were late 70s. Edit: I read somehwere in the archives that 61s might not have the number cast in them. Where on the webbing is it? (not to be a complete PITA) Ron

When it comes to dana there seems to allways be something odd out there!
bring your tools and pop the cove to be safe. There are thick ring gears if your in the need!

3.54 is the split ratio.
The R&P will be stamped with the teeth count I.E a 4.88 will have 39 teeth on the ring and seven on the pinion. and be stamped 39-8 7.17 43-6 6.17 37.6 5.86 41-7 4.88 39-8 4.56 41-9 4.10 41-10 3.73 41-11 3.54 46-13 3.33 50-15

Aw fawk it.
I will just copy all the BOMs and come back and figure it out if I have any doubt. Based on my half assed reseach it looks like the dodge vans are quite likey to have 4.10s (even with a V8) and I have my eye on a nice dodge van there as my first choice. Ron

Yup,
That 35 spline full float offset D70 with 4.10s sounds I am looking for sounds like garbage, I mean after all everything I own is garbage according to Kyle. ![]() I am hoping one of the dweb locals sees the post and want to come help me pull it and put it in the truck of my POS honda DD. Ron PS google and POR are my friends http://www2.dana.com/expert/wc.dll?DSD~deabill~6~ I have figured out that if it has two different PNs for the axle shafts it is offset. Dodges seem to have 60s in the 80s that are offset and I think that is what I found. I will check the gear ratio as it is either 3.54 or 4.10 Fords seem to have 61s unless you go to an E350 and then you get an offset D70! The one truck I could not eyeball (it was on the drums and there was too much water on the ground to see) was a late 70s/early 80s E350. here is hoping. It only goes back to 79 but it helps as most of the crap is newer there.

Damn...Never knew there was an offset D70 made...Once you know for sure PLEASE let me know what it's out of (if you can). I'll do some serious scrounging around if you can. It'll save me the hastle of cutting/sleeve/butt-welding on my centered 70.

I have a set of 35spl/1.5" d70 axles out of a 80's Ford E350 van. The offset is 4.5" I was going to have them cut down and use them in my Scouts axle, but I went SF and they just sit.

Ahhhh...Very cool Mr. Old. I'm trying to scrounge an off-set but prospects are grim...F'in New Mexico isn't the place for good old parts (everybody is still driving them!). I'll keep trying, but I'll probably have to go way north for the 70...Unless someone has a housing laying around.

Ah you fellas are all whimps.
Didnt you know that the hot setup for a rover is to run a centred rear diff with the shaft on an angle. Sam
