Something Stinks at Interior

Anybody else smell the stink?

HQ Blog with Sessions Letter
http://thegeneralsrecreationden.blog...ethics-at.html

story
The OHV community is being hammered on a daily basis with TMR-related closures, abuse of cost-recovery for permitted events, eco-lawsuits, and the sage grouse (just to name a few).Recently, HQ has been focusing some attention to the large number of wind and solar energy projects that are being fast-tracked by the Obama Administration and Department of Interior. The national media ran a story on March 17 about some ethically-challenged energy policy advisors at Interior and the NextEra project.

LA Times Article
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...,7046819.story

With even simple OHV projects (new well at Stonyford or the Carnegie SVRA lands opened for public use) being held up for 4-12 years or more due to the state and federal regulatory process and “environmental concerns” pressed by anti-access groups, HQ believes there is a double standard being practiced by some green advocates and their friends in high (or low) places.Several weeks ago, HQ got a blind fax (from a land agency employee who was fed up with the double-speak) regarding letters sent by pro-access Senator Jeff Session asking for accountability by Interior on the NextEra Project and a number of other energy efforts.

Senator Session’s Letters to Interior

It’s time that major energy projects on public lands get the same level of environmental scrutiny as OHV projects that seek to install a new well at a FS or BLM campground or build a dirt-bike trail.

Yup. The stink comes from DOI, not the administration/regime/politician that occupies the Oval Orifice.

Close DOI. Fire its employees. Start over.

“Until last summer, Yamout was special advisor on renewable energy facilities to Gov. Jerry Brown. She held the same position in the Schwarzenegger administration.”

As a clause in their employment contract, Government employees or paid “advisors” need to be prevented from becoming a lobbyist for, or otherwise employed by, the industries they were involved with while serving the public.

Obviously, lobbying has no place in Government to begin with but it is an unfortunate reality.

Bob (dreaming) . . .

The person who oversees the DOI currently is Secretary SaladCzar serving in a cabinet level position handpicked by, reporting directly to and serving at the pleasure of the politician who occupies the Oval Orifice, duly anointed by Congress of course. Handpicked by POTUS and congressionally blessed, SaladCzar advises POTUS on subjects relating to duties of Secretary of the Inferior.

There needs to be a bit more blame for the stank shared around coupled with some Admin/Senate/House cleaning IMHO!

We mostly agree, minus the partisanship.
IMHO, the stink is plenty strong without linking it to any particular party (and in so doing, alienating whichever side is targeted).

Certainly, Salazar is a clown... IMHO, the largest problems precede him and will follow him -- the staff and SOPA combine to form a SNAFU with its own miserable momentum.

No partisanship here... will be voting for the most "pro-trail" candidates...

Regarding this specific matter, I don’t care which party’s candidate currently sits as POTUS, there was no party affiliation stated or implied.

I do however take issue with the staunch green lean of all the lifers representing our State who currently enjoy key positions in Congress!

Don... are you just finding out that something "stink(s)" at DOI.

I've known this for over 22 years.

It all started with the Desert Tortoise crap and has moved on to all the other shit we have had to go through including BLM caving (under the Clinton administation) on the CBD lawsuit when they have afirmative defense(s) they could have alleged before the Court. Most of which demonstrated that most of CBD's claims in the Desert Lawsuit were time barred.

I'd be happy to send you the letter sent to then Interior Secretary Norton by the law firm CORVA used to be "amici" in the matter.

I'm surprised BRC never presented this to the Court in its brief's before the Court.
