Oh yessir!! I plan on that. Not that that is working so well in this country any more.
I'm pretty new to this aspect of the 4 wheeling arena and I admittedly have a LOT more passion than I know what to do with in the mean time.

It's open from the Hermit Valley side (hwy4) for 1 mile. South to North.

Between Hermit Valley CG and the ridge top, there is some good trail. Run up and back down is a good day. Hope to get there soon.

I went to the trail head of Deer Valley at Lower Blue Lakes yesterday and did not see any signs up indicating the trail was closed. There were tire tracks leading down the trail. We also sent into the Caples Lake Maintenance Statioin to look into the Strawberry Trail. Did not see any signs up.

We all know they are closed, but many may not and are using the trails. Summer is here, are they going to formally block these trails off?

The trail will be open from the south side up to the first meadow from that end.
It will be open from the Blue Lakes side to the meadow. The middle 3.18 miles is closed.

from the judges decision
Prohibit use on middle section of route from meadow at section 32 to meadow in south portion of section 8.

So just to be clear, by first meadow, does that mean the first river crossing you cone up to on either side?

If that's true, we moved the FJ45 Run to Sourgrass Trail (which was still nice) for nothing as we always stop at the first river crossing.

The Forest Service received notification from the Judge on 07/31/2012 on how they needed to proceed. This allowed them to open 26 miles of the closed routes.

Were are the details?
http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/eldora...ces/?aid=11118

Are there new maps? no not yet. But the sections that cross a meadow are closed. The definition of a meadow is determine by the forest service hydrologist. So basically any location that would support a plant that could grow in a meadow. So about 1.65 miles total.

I stopped up there on mu way to the 45 run (referenced earlier) and there is still nothing in the way of meaningful signage up!!
WE know the trail is closed, but there are still a lot of wheelers who are not necessarily hip to keeping up on closures and would legitimately NOT know.

If you get to a meadow...turn around

The maps give you a general idea where they will be closed, if you see a sign or get to a meadow I wouldnt go any further. YMMV

I didn't read the thread... but I was up there a month ago and there were no signs for where the trail closure was. there was a sign at the gate-keeper saying that it was closed in the middle, but nothing marking it on the trail. some people were driving through all the way. we stopped at the first water crossing so as to not piss any rangers/greenies off and make it worse.

Are we going off of this definition? Seems pretty damn vague to me

Don't worry about the greenies. Apparently they have no problem with vehicles crossing the river anymore, as demonstrated by Karen Schambach & pals photographing their Land Rover zooming up and down the river.

NorCalPR,
Going in from Blue Lakes side, you can not cross the first water crossing.
Coming in from the Hwy 4 side, you can not cross the first water crossing. The middle section of the trail is off limits for right now.

Comments Due November 7 for Eldorado Review of 42 Routes

Comments due November 7 for Eldorado Review

42 routes are to be considered

CA4WDC has been involved with Travel management planning in the El Dorado National Forest for many years. This process went through all the NEPA hoops and a final plan was signed by the Forest Supervisor.

Litigation to block implementation of the plan was brought by anti-access groups wishing to have a court imposed result they could not achieve in the public process. This litigation focused on 42 routes in the Forest that had been proposed open under the plan. The court ordered these routes temporarily closed until the Forest could do future analysis of their proximity to and effects on meadows.

The challenge hinges on a forest rule that the court recommended be changed. The Forest has now done a complete field survey of all the routes and has offered the solution in this release. All of the Forest’s high value/traveled 4X4 routes except the Rubicon are on this list. They included Barrett Lake, Strawberry, Deer Valley aka Blue lakes, Pardoe, Long Valley and many other fun and historic routes. We are very pleased the Forest Service has made this action a priority and offered a quality solution. We need your outpouring of support for this plan.

Please review and comment by the Nov 7 deadline.
