Sorry the reasons have not trickled down. Its a fairly complex answer.
The most basic answer is no live fire or limited live fire training in the OHV area. This was identified as a do-able solution based on an Aug 2004 Document "Analysis of Marine Expeditionary Brigade training areas" coupled with the shared use concept the Marines had proposed for a portion of the area. That 2004 Document is available via a search, but it would make your head blow up if I outlined the entire strategy here on the web. It would also not be in our best interests. I have read it no less than 3 times, and it still makes my head hurt. It is very difficult to make the time to outline specific answers to questions based on the time we are spending on the subject. I have felt my time is better spent moving forward, and have elected to keep answering questions on the web to a minimum, based on some past experiences. That being said I do believe its important to keep people informed on what is going on, and will attempt again to ask our member based associations to make a better effort at keeping the public up to speed. It takes an large group to fight this type of land closure. Perhaps we need to learn how to do a better job in that aspect. In the intern I suggest you can do a couple of things. Watch the facebook fan page, visit the web page and if you like you can sign up for the ORBA Newsletter. I use that as a method to keep ORBA members in the loop and its free to anyone who wants it. It is posted the second Tuesday of the month on the ORBA facebook fan page as well. I know it seems a simple solution to just answer questions here on Pirate, but we are reaching a way larger target on facebook with much less effort. Time is something none seem to have an abundance of. Thanks for the faith. Hope that gives you a small window into the overall effort.

Mr. Secretary, I understand you are in the process of reviewing the proposed Marine Expansion into the Johnson Valley OHV area in California and I would like the conclusion you reach, once you review all of the facts, is that the Marines do not need to take this wonderful resource from the people of the United States. Personally, I retired six years ago and moved to Apple Valley (only a short distance from JV) so that I could be close to the area I love. I enjoy racing motorcycles there and using my rockcrawler in the most glorious environment provided in the US. The high desert is particularily hard hit by the current economic situation and this closure of 144,000 of the 188,000 acres would hurt our local economy immensely.

Mr Secretary,
I have been recreating Offroad as long as I can remember and my family lives for recreating outside. About half my life right now I have been traveling Off Highway and a handful of years ago I got the opportunity to visit Johnson Valley and was taken back by its beauty and vastness. I implore you to keep Johnson Valley open for use to our public for future generations to use. Coming from a military family I am a huge supporter of the military and I know using the Johnson Valley OHV land as a co use area for the Marines is a can do we can accomplish. I liken Johnson Valley to my family as any man would to taking his kids down to the creek to fish at the family fishing hole. It means that much to us.
