USFS Announces Members of Advisory Committee to Implement New Planning Regulations

Dear BRC Members and supporters,

Today Tom Vilsak, the Secretary of Agriculture, announced 21 members to serve on the Federal Advisory Committee for implementation of the U.S. National Forest Planning Rule. This committee will advise and give recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture and the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service on implementation of the new planning rule. The list of members is pasted below.

According to a USFS press release, over 220 people from 34 states applied to serve on the committee. Members selected represent diverse backgrounds, the full range of public interests in management of the National Forest System lands, and geographically diverse locations and communities.

As the agency moves forward with implementation of the new regulations there will be multiple opportunities to be involved. It is imperative OHV users participate in local forest plan revisions and amendments. Be sure to subscribe to BRC's Action Alert list for regular updates and info on USFS planning activities. Speaking of opportunities to stay involved, the USFS will prepare directives for implementing the new rule this summer so, as we so often say... stay tuned!

As always, please call or email with any questions or concerns,

Brian Hawthorne
Public Lands Policy Director
