CBD's latest anti-OHV propaganda - Carnegie SVRA

Save Tesla Park From ORV Destruction

California's ORV division has never addressed the serious environmental damage to soil, water quality, vegetation and endangered species at Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area, a moonscape of completely eroded hills. Yet the agency now wants to let intensive ORV use tear up Alameda-Tesla purchase lands.

Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area is updating its general plan and will be preparing an "environmental impact report," but its notice for the environmental review leaves out any mention of expanding destructive ORV use. It likewise fails to describe the important biological resources in the Tesla area that would be destroyed -- or any alternative uses for the park.

The Center for Biological Diversity has joined with the Friends of Tesla Park to preserve the Tesla lands as a nonmotorized park and low-impact recreation area, to save its historic and natural resources.

Please use the form below to protect Tesla from being pulverized by ORVs.

My letter sent from their form:

An extremely vocal minority of anti-access individuals are undoubtedly complaining to you about the proposed expansion of the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area into the Alameda-Tesla purchase lands. I would like to urge you to please consider the benefits from opening this land to family-friendly recreational opportunities - especially considering the fact that the millions of Bay Area residents have no other OHV recreation areas anywhere near their homes.

OHV recreation is not the destructive activity that the "environmental" community's propaganda makes it out to be. OHV users enjoy their sport because it allows them to access and appreciate the environment. They take pride in the countless hours they volunteer to assist the State in environmental management projects. They want their children to fall in love with Nature, just as they have. Carnegie provides the public with recreational opportunities that no other Bay Area parks provide, and it is critical for the respect of the environment everywhere that the millions of Bay Area citizens have access to Carnegie to learn proper land management and protection practices in a non-exclusionary manner.

Environmental health and OHV recreation are NOT mutually exclusive. The vast majority of OHV users would consider themselves to be the true environmentalists.

Public lands should be preserved for EVERY member of the public, not just for a select few groups of elitists. With all the exclusionary city, county, regional, state, and national parks across the country already prohibiting any form of motorized recreation, isn't it time that a tiny percentage of public land be opened to EVERY responsible American?

The 2008 Outdoor Recreation Plan by State Parks demonstrated that opportunities for OHV recreation are a highly valued freedom enjoyed by OHV users and non-OHV users alike. With neverending closures of public lands across California and the entire United States, this small addition to the cherished Canegie SVRA should be welcomed and appreciated by every Californian.

Public lands should be preserved FOR the public, not FROM the public!

Thank you.

Yea, saw the email from the clownz @ CBD this morning. I subscribe to 'em to get a heads up about their latest 'efforts' and was just about to post what you just did.

I urge you to protect our public land and the habitat of endangered species in eastern Alameda County from ORV destruction. I understand California State Parks' Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Division has proposed a major expansion of the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area into 3,478 acres of the Corral Hollow Creek watershed, which are the Alameda-Tesla purchase lands.

Corral Hollow is a biologically unique area with savannah grassland and oak woodland habitats that support a wide range of endangered and sensitive wildlife. It is the northernmost limit of many rare, native plant species and functions as a critical habitat corridor for wildlife via the Diablo Range. Expanding the impacts of ORV use into the Alameda-Tesla purchase lands would be devastating to this irreplaceable habitat, and it should not happen.

Corral Hollow's precious historical, cultural, biological and scenic resources should be protected as a historic park and nature preserve, not destroyed by the same ORV use that has decimated the land in neighboring Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area.

The 2008 Outdoor Recreation Plan by State Parks demonstrated that low-impact recreation was the first choice of Californians, not ORV use. At this time when scores of state parks are under threat of closure because of the state budget crisis, it is illogical for the Off-highway Motor Vehicle Division to plan a multimillion-dollar expansion of the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area into public land that should be preserved as native landscape.

Thank you.

KEEP TESLA PARK FOR OHV RECREATION!!!

I urge you to allow OHV use our public land. I understand California State Parks' Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Division has proposed a major expansion of the Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area into 3,478 acres of the Corral Hollow area, which are the Alameda-Tesla lands, purchased from the OHMVR Divisions acquisition funds, paid for by the OHV community.

Corral Hollow is a unique area with savannah grassland and oak woodland habitats that support a wide range of terrain perfect for OHV use. Expanding the ORV use into the Alameda-Tesla purchase lands would be a fantastic use of the resources and create a unique recreation for many OHV enthusiasts.

Corral Hollow's historical, cultural, biological and scenic resources should be utilized for off road recreation.

We fully support the use of OHV's on these lands and encourage stakeholder participation in the development of these trails and the recreational opportunities they will provide.

Thank you.

I love how every place is also a 'biologically unique area'

nothing is ever 'yeah, its most common type in the state'

Done, letter sent to the same folks.

We really oughta use the CBD's own letter generators against them more often.

This expansion would allow OHVers to have more options in areas to recreate, thus reducing the impact on other local parks.
