CA - California Department of Fist and Game Name Change

REALLY, WTF???

Quote:
What's in a name? That's the question facing lawmakers as some look at changing the name of the California Department of Fish and Game.

Others question why the idea is even being considered during tight budget times.

The bill to change the name is now making its way through the legislature. It already passed the Assembly, but on the Senate side some lawmakers are asking if the name change is worth the cost to California taxpayers.

"The game wardens themselves have been doing a TV show called 'CalWild'," says Pasadena Assemblyman Anthony Portantino. "So we have CalTrans, we have Cal Fire, CalFire, so the game wardens said why don't we use the phrase CalWild?"

Portantino says calling the department "Fish and Game" is outdated. His bill would change the name to the "California Department of Fish and Wildlife." Cal-Wild -- "Cal-Wild" for short.

"This is an attempt to reflect the mission of the department and reflect a contemporary appreciation of wildlife," Portantino says. He adds that there are cost-saving measures built into his legislation. New signs, uniforms, even stationary would only change when it is necessary to buy new ones.

But a legislative analysis has shown that just changing the department's website and designing a new logo would still cost anywhere from $250,000 to $400,000.

"I think we should be careful how we spend the taxpayer's money now," says Ceres Senator Sen. Anthony Canella. He voted against the name change in the Senate appropriations committee saying it's the wrong time to discuss a name change..

"In these times when, No. 1, we're having a tough time just meeting our obligations and No. 2, the governor's asking for additional tax revenue from people I don't think this should be a priority."Assemblyman priority," he said.

Portantino disagrees, saying he thinks the analysis has the costs too high. "I thought that was interesting when they said websites would be $350,000," Portantino says of the legislative analysis, "when most people can do a webiste website at home for thirty-three 33 cents."

WTF?
Name change will probably better reflect the new emphasis on butterflies and unicorns.

Im in the printing industry and I can say first hand this means tens of millions of dollars in expense new business cards for every employee, new letterhead, every award and form presented will need new dies for foil and plaques on doors, vehicle graphics removal of old and install new everything down to fish and games guns are currently engraved with the old name and will be submitted for change. this is a ridiculous waste of 10+ million dollars

When Brown put Charlton "Chuck" Bonham in charge we all knew there would be some major, costly, stupid, unnecessary changes made and this is just one of many he's cooked up during his short tenure.

Remember that his last job was as Trout Unlimited's California Director where he had responsibility for developing, managing, and implementing TU's programs??

Well, now he’s doing both jobs!!!

I haven't researched the numbers, but on a past show one of their own stated licenses and stamps are way down and reducing even further...

Added regulations, drug cartels taking over our mountainous wilderness areas, out of control immigration polices, (or lack thereof), overall failing economy of this state of California... Productive Consumers bailing as fast as their wheels can move them out and away from here.

Gee-Whizz kid's, wheres the good news at? Haven't found any yet?

"Have you?"
