WY: BLM wants input on McCullough Peaks travel
BLM wants input on McCullough Peaks travel
scho CODY, Wyo. (AP) - The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has asked for public input on managing travel in the McCullough Peaks area. A travel management plan is being developed to outline which roads and trails could be used by motorized vehicles. The plan would apply only to BLM-owned land in the area, BLM spokeswoman Janine Terry said. The McCullough Peaks sit southwest of Powell and are bordered by the Shoshone River to the west, and Whistle Creek Road to the east. A public meeting on the plan will be held Aug. 26 at the Park County Courthouse. ''One of our main objectives in managing this area is to maintain and enhance opportunities for off-road vehicle use, yet protect the resources that are there from any adverse travel effects,'' said Stephanie Sironen, BLM outdoor recreation planner. ''We are especially concerned with unauthorized routes occurring in the McCullough Peaks Wilderness Study Area,'' she said. Written comments can also be submitted by Sept. 11 to the BLM's Cody field office, or by e-mail at cody-wymailblm.gov. AP-WS-08-13-03 0231EDT
