I am sure he will respond, as soon as he removes his nose from Don Klusman's ass fully understanding the party line that there is nothing in So Cal worth fighting for.

To luvrox,

Personally I think John Stewart does a good job of bringing information up to the membership, it is then up to us to tell him how we want him to handle things. If we (YOU) don't speak up OR are in the minority, TOUGH SHIT. Work harder, get more people to voice your opinion and get things changed.

Dustin, I have not been able to find anything on this subject, such as a map yet. I am calling the BLM office now.

Steve Gardiner

I already called, they claim to know nothing about it.

From John Stewart:

This is the "fine-print" interpretation we expected to come from the
milk-vetch/biological opinion suit.

I haven't received the blow-by-blow from Dennis Porter and Paul Turke.
However, we knew the impact would be felt beyond Glamis Sand Dunes.
That is why CA4WDC was part of the coalition fighting the core issue.

The major impact is on duel-sport motorcycle events in the desert
areas. Cougar Buttes has other issues that have placed it in he
cross-hairs.

I know Royce Wood of AMA. He works out of the Pickering, Ohio office. I have a call and email into him to confirm his statements.

I also have calls into Roxie Trost and Mike Ahrens for their comments.

Ron Schiller of the High Desert Multiple Use Coalition is not aware of anything. The only lawsuit they have been involved with is the original Desert Lawsuit in 2001. That lawsuit is still not formally settled. It is the one that triggered the update of the various desert management plans.

I spent over 2 hours on a teleconference with Mike, Roxie and several other BLM types discussing permit issues on Tuesday.

This was not mentioned as an issue with Johnson Valley. I am sure someone would have said something as I expressed concern about the potential for burdensome permit and cost recovery for rockcrawling events.

I do know a couple of things are in the legal pipeline. This does bear resemblance to one of the issues.

In short, duel-sport motorcycle events are expected to take a major hit with permit costs as their events require on-site monitoring. We (Dave Tonkiss, Jim Prilon and I) are trying to hold permit costs to a minimum in open areas.

It is possible this is bad information as I cannot find reference to a lawsuit filed in March. CBD did file of notice of intent to sue about that time. Their NOI deals with biological opinions and the entire desert is expected to be impacted.

AMA efforts in southern Cal are in relation to the Riverside and San Bernardino county sound ordinances.

ASA is the lead organization with respect to several other lingering lawsuits in the desert area. BRC, AMA, CA4WDC, CORVA and a couple others are part of the coalition funding those efforts.

In short, this does cover some finer details of the recent Glamis lawsuit where the RMP was not approved due to not in compliance with the biological opinion.

From that ruling, CBD has filed notice of intent to sue based on faulty biological opinions. That would not only impact the SoCal Desert, but ALL BLM managed lands nation-wide.

One other related issue just relesed is the denial of a CA4WDC appeal of an administrative closure in the Western Rand Mountains ACEC. That closure will continue pending implementation of an educational program and permit system for recreational users in the Rands.

From the information now available, I would call this a hoax.
