Bebe went.
She Pm'ed me, but i'll let her post here. WE NEED TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON. The forest service is giving people the info, but in such a way that the average person gets lost really quick. Someone needs to break it down and communicate the process clearer I think. Also the forest service holds these meetings and posts stuff on thier website, but who looks on thier site unless you are already looking for something? We need to find a way to get this info out to the masses.

The meeting started out pretty packed, I'd say 30-40 people in attendance.
I have to congratulate TNF for how organized and informative thier presentation is. The first presentation was on the American River South, only a few trails were cleaned up, reducing only some unecessary spurs to create some loops. Same with American River Middle section, which involved some user created routes in the Sugarloaf OHV area. There were no diagreements with some of the proposed closures there. A few connections were added to create complete loops. The American River north section only had a couple of routes in question, there were no disagreements. There were several mistakes on the FS maps that were caught by users and brought up. Sadly, a large percentage of the attendees left after the first break thinking that mostly Motorcycle routes were being discussed. They missed the OHV routes in subsequent presentations. All in all the OHV community was well represented. And they did a great job catching as many mistakes on the maps as they did. It went well. It appeared as though many people were just finding out about the Route Designation process and had many many questions. |
