Questions from the Route Designation meeting in placerville

OK, I did the best I could using pics from Microtus's cell phone and my cell phone. My pics were blurry, and he was missing two of his. These are questions and comments posed by the public at the meeting, and this is what was written by the forest service.

July 24, 2007

1. Clarify when using the term "Motorcycle vs OHV
2. Volume of information in DEIS
-will forest service extend comment period
3. Accessibility to fight fire
4. Increase projected in use - why didn't we analyze for adding routes
5. Used the term "stakeholders" Who were they, and did they make decisions?
6. Is there a breakdown in the DEIS of the number of routes open to motorcycles, atv's, and 4wd
7. As more use occurs in the future on fewer routes, we will have more damage to routes. How will the forrest service address this?
8. Alt D trails through private land... What happened to easements?
9. Who sued the forrest service?
10. Are all routes in Alt D NFS routes? Are some user created?
11. What future (unreadable) sorry
12. How does the unheard majority get a voice?
13. User groups do a lot of things not represented in meeting will forrest service let them know of the changes.
14. Why is analysis in miles? ohv routes are very narrow.
15. Question on dispersed camping (unreadable)
16. Over what authority is the FS designation routes over private land? Need to clean up maps on DEIS.
17. What number of visitors to the forest are OHV users?
18. What was the courts ruling regarding AFA
19. unreadable
20. question regarding stakeholders again.
21. Have gates already been purchased for the plan D?
22. ALT A seems like a small number of trails of open routes
23. Land of many uses... Will we change the name?
24. BRC put in for Alt R. Why wasn't it given appropriate consideration?
25. Action Alt promise seasonal closures. Why not closures of individual routes, or other input from public.
26. How can we expect to not have damage to routes if we decrease miles with increased usage?
27. Have the forest service proceded to get easements from private land owners.
28. Dispersed camping is seperated from OHV routes, what is the difference in impact from OHV vs. SL
29. What percent of the budget is OHV fund, is this a factor in the decision?
30.Hunter trail. Is the closure proposed resulting from conflict between users?
31. OHV groups are maintaining routes, and want them rough and unmaintained. Why can't we do this rather than close them.
32. How will the emotion of the crowd be shared with the forest supervisor?
33.Communication is a big issue. Feel that there is a problem with communication. How will we fix that?
34. OHV usage is increasing. How can we expect to avoid damage to routes? What do we call a success?
35. Do IDT or Decision makes use OHV's?

Thanks microtus, it was nice taking a break from my crappy cell phone pics, yours were at least clear.

Thanks -- these offer some great extra ideas to mix into letters!

It was nice meeting you, Lisa -- I'll see you again at Jenn's place for the picnic/discussion on the 11th.
