Its OFFICIAL...The OHV Rally and Protest is on...with your help.

OHV Rally and Protest at the Placerville Fairgrounds
Sunday August 26th Noon to 7:00PM

[edit]FULLY FUNDED[/edit]

Why protest...why give????

The loss of 2500 + miles of roads and trail should be enough to motivate everyone in the OHV community. I think it is time for a public protest of the Eldorado National Forest Service. Not protesting would say we don't care and god only knows what would happen next. So...this is a call to action. Get up off the couch, build a protest sign and for just 1/2 a day Sunday August 26 between 12:00 and 7:00, go to the Placerville fairgrounds. We'll direct you from there. Its time to make an effort and fight for our rights. We're just asking for 3 hours of your time. The time is now!! SPREAD THE WORD!!

Event details:

This event will not be a band of red-necks running amuck in Placerville. If that's your plan stay home. It will be structured and organized and done within the laws and the "Protest plan" I submitted to the police department. The good news is we are approved to protest in very visable locations...overpasses etc. Individuals must come to the fairgrounds first, get instructions on where and how to properly protest, then they will sign up with picture ID before they begin to protest.

Absolutely no ALCOHOL or glass containers.

This is a family friendly event.
  • Arrive Noon
  • Park, enter gate and head to the back Lawn...right by the gate
  • Go to the protest sign up station and sign up for location and time.
  • A picture ID will be required to be allowed to protest
  • Move to the grouping station...groups of 10-20...lead set for each grp.
  • Move to rules and guidelines/Marlon station...then leave for protest location
  • Come back to the fairgrounds when your group is replaced by a new one and go to the tables scattered about...Maps A and D...Letter writing tables...petition table.
  • We will have some bottled water, but no food so prepare accordingly
  • I can't go public with specific locations of protest. There are 10 locations and they are all within the city limits.
  • Driving a short distance will be required to get to some/most locations
  • We'll wrap up protesting at 5:30 or 6:00
  • 6:00 - 8:00 clean up

General description of the Fairgrounds area we have... Its a flat lawn area with very little shade (See "Things to bring" below). We'll have 10 picnic tables, 5 Eight foot tables for sign ups and staff use, a very small stage and a PA system.

Things to bring to the event:

Eze Ups
Camp/Lawn Chairs
Food/Drinks/small coolers...ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL or GLASS Containers
Sun Screen
As many people as you can gather

Groups will be asked to protest for around 2 hours (maybe a bit more...maybe a bit less based on turn out) and then return to the fairgrounds for letter writing, to receiver information about the closures in the DEIS, sign a petition and more that could come up between now and the event.

Questions to me please use email: go2camp@comcast.net

Nick, I've gotten one volunteer to cover print costs. We can use a few to spread the expense over more people. I'd like to see people print and distribute the flyers too. I intend on handing them out a the 13th meeting...at the end of the meeting. I need sample DEIS alternative letters printed as well as protesting ground rules printed. I haven't created the doc for ground rules yet...next couple days. Sample letters will be developed follow some of the letter writing parties. So, there's more to come. Email me examples letters. go2camp@comcast.net

This event can be driven to. The facilities accomodate the handicapped. And each of the protest locations are sidewalks that can be driven to and protested from. Wheelchair should have no issue.

Contacts with the press/tv. Excellent!! Thanks. I'll be making some calls today.

Thanks to everyone getting the word out. The money is coming in. Who will put us over the top?

Marlon

Update...

The cash situation is good. But, I need more to reach my total and be Fully Funded. I've spent most of the day today working on promoting the event... advertising if you will. I've added $75.00 to the expenses for one weeks worth of signage in front of the fairgrounds leading up to the event. The printing costs (flyers/posters) look to be covered. Thanks Jack/WLDWUN!! You the man.

[edit]FULLY FUNDED!!![/edit] This is the address to send money to me via paypal.

Any organization or club or business wanting to support this event can set up thier own booth at the fairground area for free. You need to communicate with me prior. Contact info below. You supply everything...Ezeup/Table etc...set up time is 9:30-11:30. I want your support.

Its time for me to ask for help. Who is willing to take on lead roles in this process. I want to have a meeting and start delegating. Post up now.

Needs:

I need people to contact local businesses, clubs and orgs to support the event. I need people to distribute flyers to business etc. I'd like to run an add in the Mt Democtrat...Price?? I'd like to get in the Friday Ticket...sac bee? I need a motorcycle and ATV primary contact. Someone that knows the forums/communications routes of that community. Buick???? Call me even if you can't be a lead for me. I have questions. I can dream up more than I can accomplish...post up if you can help.

Communicate with me via:

Thanks
Marlon

I asked Don Sphuler (sp?) from Cal4WD for his mailing list.

He said that he could NOT give it to me, but he would forward the information about the Rally to all of the clubs.

I will work on getting the Bay Area clubs up there.
