I am curious if anyone here has any opinions or possibly had contact with anyone from this program? I put in my application, was accepted and finished my training this past weekend. It seemed like a good deal, and a chance to try and get something done. However, yesterday I ran into a friend of mine that I rarely see and started talking to him about it. He is an avid wheeler and heavily involved with local clubs. His first reaction was to say that ‘these are the people that make you buy the land use permits.’ Now, the program is part of both BLM and the State Land Dept (among others), and yes both of these entities require use permits, but we were told in our training that we are not to be the bad guy, or act like law enforcement. They want us out there trying to spread goodwill and encourage responsible wheeling. They have plenty of meet and greets planned, as well as trail cleanups and repair. I have never encountered anyone from this program before going to the training… they are only in 3 pilot areas, and none of them are places I routinely visit. So I guess my question is… how is this being received by the average wheeler? Thanks |
