Grassroots Is Making A Difference!

There is a real change happening in Washington, DC thanks to President Bush
listening to grassroots activists across America.

PLEASE THANK President Bush, and tell your Senators that the President is
naming many good people to run the government including Steve Griles for
Deputy Secretary of Interior. SEE Action Items below!

STEVE GRILES, President Bush's nominee to be Gale Norton's #2 in the
Interior Department, is from Virginia. And so here is a letter from the
town of Stuart in southwest Virginia, near where Griles used to work in
Bristol. It shows clearly WHY we need to have good people in our land
management agencies.

Dear President Bush,

As a sawmiller in southwest Virginia, and one who is concerned about the
environment, I have several concerns to share with you.

We are so happy you won, and we look forward to changes in the
environmental policy and federal timber and land management. Federal timber
is the worst managed in the country because Clinton, Babbit, and Dombeck
managed it with politics rather than science. Let the trained foresters
manage the forests and keep the politicians out. Remember 7 million acres
burned, over 400 homes and businesses burned and 27 firefighters died
because of wildfires last year.

Most think it was because of mismanagement by not allowing timber,
underbrush, diseased and dead trees to be removed from the forests. Better
land and timber management are needed and hopefully Clinton's parting shot
of tying up 60 million acres of federal land to keep the citizens out will
be overturned.

I live close to federal lands and do not want my home and land grabbed so
Wildlanders can restock wolves and grizzlies (like John Turner did) where I
now live. I'd hate to have our family sawmill burned by ELF because they do
not like people who cut trees and protest their actions. I do both and they
know it.

Thank you and I hope my concerns warrant being acted upon by your people.

Bruce G.
Stuart, Virginia

THANKS to the Alliance for America Listserve for sharing that letter with
us!
Freedom is not free - stay on guard.

--------------------------------------

HERE is some whining from liberals, this from an email to us:

You have been using a goddamn bear rug to kill a fly in John Turner. All
my friends in DC say that you have burned nearly every bridge we had worked
to build by treating decent Wyoming folk like old Al and John so bad on the
e-mails. They say there may even be a bigger push to place Turner in a
position now that you have smeared his good name to spread fear and
organize the troops.

HERE is some more whining from liberals:

Martha Marks, president of Republicans for Environmental Protection, told
Federal Parks and Recreation newsletter on March 9, "First of all they
(property rights and Wise Use activists) are coming at it from a narrow
personal interest. They are not much interested in the public lands.
Second, if John Turner were undersecretary he would not undercut Gale
Norton. He would provide balance."

--------------------------------------

BALANCE?????????

Gale Norton DOES NOT require balance. Gale Norton IS balance, a
restoration to sanity after eight years of Clinton/Gore/Babbitt
craziness!!!

ACTION ITEMS:

President Bush should be thanked. PLEASE ALSO tell your Senators, who
will vote on the President's nominations, to support Steve Griles for
Deputy Secretary because he will work with Gale Norton to restore access to
federal lands and respect property rights.

Here are suggestions on what to say about Steve Griles:

*** Steve Griles has always supported reasonable access to the federal
lands for both recreation and commercial use.

*** He is a supporter of private property rights

*** Interior Secretary Gale Norton should be able to put into place a team
that is philosophically in line with her views and agenda

*** Griles has good experience:

He worked in the Interior Department during the Reagan Administration. He
was Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management, and Deputy
Director of the Office of Surface Mining for Reagan. He is currently a
lobbyist in Washington, DC at National Environmental Strategies. He is a
graduate of the University of Richmond, Richmond Virginia.

ACTION ITEMS:

AAAAA----- Fax and e-mail President George W. Bush thanking him for
appointing Steve Griles as Deputy Secretary of the Interior.

President's FAX 202-456-2461
president@whitehouse.gov

BBBBB----- It is especially important that you contact BOTH your Senators
to urge them to vote to confirm Griles when his nomination comes up in the
Senate. You may call any Senator at (202) 224-3121.

CCCCC----- When you call, be sure to get your Senators fax and e-mail
addresses if you don't already have them. Follow up your phone call with a
fax encouraging a YES vote on Steve Griles.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO AT LEAST FIVE OTHER PEOPLE

Thumbs up

Here's a letter I wrote this morning, feel free to copy it, modify it, or plagerize it, just do something with it and send it to the President and CC it to your congress critters! MAKE SURE to put your FULL address on the letter, otherwise its not official, and they have no way to reply to you.

Mr. President,

As a citizen of The United States of America, I would like to thank you for appointing Steve Griles as Deputy Secretary of the Interior. Mr. Griles has always supported reasonable access to the federal lands for both recreation and commercial use. He is a supporter of private property rights. Griles has experience. He worked in the Interior Department during the Reagan Administration. He was Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management, and Deputy Director of the Office of Surface Mining for Reagan. He is currently a lobbyist in Washington, DC at National Environmental Strategies. He is a graduate of the University of Richmond, Richmond Virginia.

Interior Secretary Gale Norton should be able to put into place a team
that is philosophically in line with her views and agenda.

At this point in time I would also like to comment on the over abuse of the Antiquities Act by former President Clinton. The public has been locked out of 60 million acres of their land. This not only discourages me, but makes it impossible for me to enjoy my country. I will not settle for videos and post card pictures of the great outdoors. This is MY country! This is OUR country! Why is that one man can decide, without Public input OR Congressional Approval, to lock everyone out of their land? This is a troubling issue for me. I feel that wildlife need protected areas, BUT NOT at the cost of Human hardships!

These National Monuments have cost thousands of people, Citizens of this Great Country, their jobs, their homes, their lands, and most disheartening of all, THEIR LIVELIHOOD. Generations of Americans have harvested the benefits of our National Forests. These Monuments have shut down Sawmills, hurt logging companies, forced ranchers to move their livestock out of new "Monuments", and even forced Families off their Land, land which has been owned by them for generations. I ask you this, Mr. President, How do all of these things benefit the American People? When did a tree or a "fairy shrimp" become more important than a citizen's, no a human being's, right to livelihood and the pursuit of the American Dream?

In closing I would like to urge you, along with Interior Secretary Gale Norton and other Freedom loving members of your Administration, to carefully review every single acre that was set aside during President Clinton's 60 Million acre Lockup. I feel it is vital to the sovereignty of our Great Nation that these "Monuments" be reviewed by Congress, and the rest of the American People. National Monuments need to be approved by The People, not designated by the strike of a pen!

I look forward to hearing your thought and comments on these subjects.

Sincerely,
A Concerned American Citizen
