<FONT COLOR="yellow">I think BRC is the first (at least that I have seen) to publically prepare a statement that points out all the flaws in the CWC report, Off-Road to Ruin.I hope the other organizations follow soon.</FONT c>
News Release-Green OHV Report is Flawed BLUE RIBBON COALITION, INC. NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Don Amador Phone:925.625.6287 Email:brdon_a@sharetrails.org Date:March 16, 2001 OUTDOOR GROUP SAYS GREEN HIT PIECE FAILS TO TELL WHOLE STORY OAKLEY, CA -- Many in the off-highway vehicle (OHV) community feel that a recent anti- motorized recreation hit piece is unfair because it fails to include a large number of* success stories.* The 70 page document “Off-Road to Ruin” recently published by the California Wilderness Coalition (CWC) conveniently forgot to highlight pro-active resource protection efforts undertaken by the state OHV program, multiple-use recreationists, and* federal land agencies. These co-environmental and recreation endeavors include rehabilitating hillclimbs, closing trails that transverse meadows, hiring more law enforcement officers, and protecting illegal trespass onto private property.* Rather, the report* focuses on non-existent “user conflicts” and out of context photographs to misrepresent responsible OHV recreation in public lands. According to Don Amador, the western representative for the Blue Ribbon Coalition, “I don’t consider CWC’s report to be credible when it fails to cite the fact that Placer County and OHVers have spent over $700,000 in the last few years to address environmental concerns associated with the nationally-famous Rubicon Trail in the Lake Tahoe area.” “User conflict is also misrepresented when the greens do not acknowledge that a large trail-based community group comprised of mostly equestrian and OHV enthusiasts gladly share and support the multiple-use trail system on the Georgetown Ranger District in the Eldorado National Forest,” Amador said. “Another story omitted is that of a large land owner in Northern California who was so happy with the management of surrounding* ‘OHV’* lands by the Bureau of Land Management that she donated her private property to the federal government during a* National Trails Day celebration,”** Amador concludes. ------------------ <FONT COLOR="yellow">"Its a Wheelbase Thing, Your Jeep Wouldn't Understand"</FONT c> Peter S.
