Does anyone know what this is about? Straight out of this month's In Gear.

"Volunteers needed for OHV checkpoint"

Sign up for the OHV Checkpoint at the Rubicon Trail. Get your club out for a weekend to help out. The checkpoint will be held at Loon Lake. There is camping for all those who attend with no costs.
We will be working with the US Forest Service in handing out information about rules and regulations governing use of the off-road trails. The job is to alert all people of these rules.
The scheduled time for this event is May 26-October 28, 2001. There are lots of opportunities for this fun event. Sign up in clubs, groups, or as individuals for the weekend of your choice.

This is the same sort of informational kiosk that CA4WDC hosted last year over Labor Day weekend -- passing out brochures and tips on responsible 'wheeling.

This is NOT a law enforcement effort, but we had 4 rangers including the law enforcement guy stop in to show support for the effort. The goal is to increase awareness to some of the issues in the area, in hopes of preserving access.

IMHO, if we can continue to get information out -- especially on ways to reduce our impact camping -- it is a damn good thing, regardless of who sponsors it, CA4WDC or anybody else.
