I know a bunch of guys with yj's running Aw4's (the yj never came with that trans, it had a tf999 3 speed no overdrive auto) with great success. They use the stock Aw4 computer and wire it up as a stand alone unit with only the throttle valve cable hooked to the engine, everything else is all on its own. It would be pretty simple to do that in your rig.

yeah the twin stick was about $350 and the single is at a junk yard, so with the wiring for the AW4 for my 3.0 do you think ill go through much trouble, do i need to find a different computer for the tranny or is it compatible with the 3.0. From all my readings the AW4 and the A340F are almost exactly the same but it seemed for me to do an A340F swap id run into speed sensor problems, with having to mill out the tail housing. I have a 4 cyl transfer case and leads to a A340F transmission but it seemed id be going through less trouble running the AW4 and a Dana 300 behind my 3.0. What are your thoughts on this? again sorry im new to all this coming from a family who had never done auto work. i just don't want to get to far over my head i think your the first thread with success to seeing an AW4 in a yota with a Danna 300, everyone talks about it but ive never really seen it been written up completely i was finding more negative feed rather then positive so i had to ask

hey so I'm still kind of new to wheeling, but anyways I've got an 88 4runner v6 auto 3.slow and my tranny went out. so I've been looking into the AW4 out of a XJ 91 or higher and found a Dana 300 dual stick or just a Dana 300 do i need another part to make this work like the clock ring or the adapter between the Tranny and T Case? what part did you end up using and where can i find one?
Id Really appreciate your help, thanks.

I haven't gotten that far yet. I have the stock Lexus trans too and the only hiccup I see so far is a speed sensor on the tailhousing. I'll be sure to keep you abreast of what the fawk I end up doing. I'm sure it'll be interesting. :D

Curious how you wired up the aw4 to the 1uz.. I'm thinking about running the aw4 behind the 1uz to an atlas and would like the speedo and factory computer to work..

As in I picked up the wedding planner and she is coming to visit me. Their wedding is over and done with. The house does have a two car garage and also a "RV" parking on the side, which just means a 10x25 foot gravel drive.

Yeah, well they got Married back in South Carolina but are living in Spokane.

I will come stop by sometime this weekend. I bought a house this morning, closing Mid March, so no dreams of starting the build on the truck for a while. Hollar at me when you get in town.

You stick it far enough down her throat, she will pass out from lack of oxygen shortly.

Good times, the wedding planner is flying out here to visit and see where she is going to move to someday soon. So, thats cool!

Not a problem, I'll do what I can to help you along. It's a pretty easy swap if do completely away with the computer and go full manual but it isn't all that tough to do it with everything intact. It's just time consuming. :D
