Hydro steering ram

I have a question for those of you running hydo rams on your 404 MOG axles. I know the length turning measured at the stock steering arms is over 8". I wan to know if you guys get rams that are 9 or 10" throws and put in limit blocks, or get 8" rams and create custom steering arms to get full turning out of you MOG axles.

JUst use a 10" and run with it. that is unless you are going full hydro then just use some stroke limiters to limit it back a little

Thanks for the reply Matt. I am going full hydro, so I will get the 10" and get limiters for it.

Cruiserrg:

On the rockmog we built a few years ago I measured the steering stabilizer
which had an 8" throw stop to stop. We then put a cylinder in it's place that
had an 8" stroke. We were a little worried since double acting cylinders have different amount of force based on if it is pulling or pushing. To solve that problem we put one cylinder on each side. They are tucked in behind the axle
where the steering stabilizer was. It is probably an overkill having two cylinders
but we thought a spare would come in handy. Another advantage is that it
you wheel comes up against a boulder or log sometimes if you turn the wheel the
object is just pushed out of the way. The system has held up for two years now
without problems.

good luck

drj,
thanks for the reply. I have taken a measurement of the length the tierod arm travels lock to lock and found it to be a bit over 9".
I think the factory steering didn't utilize the full lock to lock of the knuckle.

I plan on using a double ended ram for steering, and decided to get a 10" ram and use limiters to get exactly lock to lock. I want to get as much turning radius out of this as possible. I wish I could put the ram behind the axle like you described, but with my 4 link is will not allow that, so I am forced to put the ram out front and out back in the rear and make custom steering arms.
