bed hinges on a 404

Will this work to allow for frame flex? Obviously Im not thinking of a stock Mog bed. Any other ideas that are simple?

in this picture the square tube is hinged to the frame of the bed and again at the end of the channel iron. This forms a Z shackle of sorts like is sold by Tera flex (made by metal made right.. Kurt Hildabrand {sp}) to go with the leaf spring swivel shackles. One end of the tube is lobbed off to clearence for the moutning bolt of the channel iron.

FYI.
Two of the ways beds etc. have been mounted on a 404 mog.

ONE: Essentially a 3-point mounting system for their beds/boxes. Solid mounts at backend of chassis is two of the mounts and one central near the front is the third. The front mount can pivot. This is to allow for frame flex at the center of the chassis where the box bed attaches.

This is a conceptual drawing.... not accurate in shape and size.

Just added

TWO: One whole side (left or right) fix mounted. The other side hinge mounted. This is the Swiss troup carrier mounting system. I'm trying to get pics now.

I cant make heads or tails of that drawing. here is how I mounted mine. There are to solid mounts at the back of the bed, and at the center of the frame in the front of the bed, there is a single pivot provided by a shock bushing. I have pics, but i cant find them right now. . Its super simple, and has held up to rolling the truck on its side many times.

interesting. I get your idea behind the shock bushing. I would love to see pics of how you attached it all.

nothing wrong with #2 . I came apon its existence "after" paper designing the goofy thing. I had heard swiss bed was different than radiobox but sorta forgot about it. I still have not looked close at a swiss bed.

Can you get me pics of your bed hinge system Ken? Or did you yank your bed and get rid of it. Sorry Im drawing a blank at the moment.

oh to... "and where going with this".... My thinking was moslty utility use around town... but if I want to go off road to pull a friend out of the muck etc. then this way I can. But cheap and easy must prevail at the moment. Maybe local wheeling?? ahh man now you got me thinking of wheeling.....

I MiSS THE RUBICONNNNNNNN

Here is the German Flat bed mount system.

I
Basically one full side of the bed and frame is bolted together. The other full side of the frame and bed are bolted together using the swivel eye you will see in the pics below. What I dont know is if this shackle looking bed attachements swings to one side or the other. I have posed this question to another and Ill up date you on the responce. If any of ya'll know please pipe in.

These pics are of the underside of a bed that has been removed and is sitting on barrells.

more details

Quote:

The two flat legs are hinged up in the bed frame where you
cant really see. The hinge is in the same direction as the
bracket at the bottom, so basically it is like a mini
control arm. Its not as "engineered" as you might expect,
basically there is just a lot of slop in the driver side
attachment to allow for flex.

I think the flatbeds can create as much flex, they just
dont do it until you load them and most people typically
run unloaded. Even a bunch of gear in the bed is not going
to come close to a 2000 pound box.

The bed comes pretty close to the cab, ... but I think its only a few
inches at most.
