Bumblebee "Hummel" Pics
BumbleBee "Hummel" pics
Bumble Bee pics. These are the pictures i have of my Mog. I had to take the bakcing plate off to drive the brake pivot pins all the way through the back side as they where rusted terribly. The final drive bearings are all shot from water by morons in the Volunteer Fire Department in Paris texas. Last edited by coachgeo; 04-01-2003 at 08:21 PM. |

Tried to buy mog for months, lost 1 on ebay close to me when seller sold after auction, typical, ran an add on umimog exchange for project mog, guys says he has sound mog title good shape etc, etc, anyway it was 560 miles from my house in middle of nowhere,,,,, arrived in dark after hail storm and wind blowing rental car with slick tires off the intersate for hours, guy takes me for ride, seems to run ok, it was raining, i knew nothing about checking the lockers, transmission, brakes etc, tired wore out, shows me a title with his name on back, or at least he said it was, remember i was at his rundown farm in Commerce texas, 12 pm raining, looked at it with headlights, should have gone home! I paid cash and bought it. Went home and got haul truck, mog had gasi n both tanks when ii left it, come back it runs out on ramps after 3 min warm up,, 3 hours finding gas can and gas, get it home and drive it around bog at ranch, those giant tires seem out of round, pull to change them out with nato sparesa nd discover final drive out, start on trying to g et parts and place to buy, first order of manuals etc is still backordered, got screwed by close dealer/mog seller, finally somebody from this site said try UPS in cal, ordered everything from there guy called and said it was shipped the same day, waiting for this after noon parts manuals etc lot of bearings coming. I have only pulled the one final so far and it must have had a leaking seal letting mud, water enter final drive and eat up bearings races/cones. Oil was terrible in rest, this was only one mustard looking, hopefully the rest are not water damaged. Still have not figured out what is wrong with trans, donot buy mog fron anywhere but the best dealer you can find or you will get stung by crook like i did if you are not careful, so far i not impressed with parts supply or used supply, mogs are parts orphans with no home! No way i will ever take one on the road unless it is full of spare parts. So far looks like I will have to pull everything which i donot mind but sure wanted to drive it some before completely rebuilding it. As soo as i finish i will sell it and buy a diesel and newer version like the u1200 miliary with better brakes axles and interiors, horsepower, i would not change anything though just wish the learning curve was not so high&timeconsuming on these trucks! I was going to buy 3 in a container but the war broke out and shipping became a concern & neighbor backed out of deal at last moment so seller got pissed&did not want to sell only one with no extras...Never buy a mog that a volanteer fire department has used for flood rescue, good bet finals will not be changed after water encounter. If i ever get the title straightened out and bee inspected it will be a great day! truck has low miles but all in water! after i bought it i found this forum by mistake, have been here before surfing dodge but did not see mercedes. Of course now that i talked to couple of memebers i find out there are 5 mogs for sale withon 60 miles of where this bumblebee came from. Now i find out the transmission does not like roads trips and nobody has designed a fix for it. 404 is just a dirt bike to me now with a title that should be hauled on trailer. I want to finish this so i can step up to newer diesel truck with fast axles and better cab, still the 404 is a classic but it is not for me! I do thank all he persons who have helped me and listen to newbie questions over and over. Will be getting title, state inspection, trans/lockers repair, paint job asap! Watch out for stinging bumblebees, they have bitten this newbie!
