Unimog Auction

Someone enlighten me.
Went to a city auction yesterday. The reason I went was to
bid and possibly buy this 1984 UNIMOG.
I am the guy that knows very little about these, other than it would be nicer than any farm tractor I could afford, by the way
It had drum brakes, diesel motor
machine had 5300 miles on it
it also had wet lines all over it, front and rear
city used it for sweeping the local airport with a broom attachment
They announced it as to having only 2 forward gears working
and 1 reverse, and that it did have something wrong with tranny
so I thought worth a try.
It sold for 10,400 dollars
My question is What kind of money was it worth?
Was that price good or bad ?
Condition on a scale of 1 to 10 for a twenty + year old unit
I would say a 9 .

there is a guy on the benz web site bragin that he bought that truck yesterday...everyone thinks that the tranny had a common prob that could be fixed in 30 mins, sounds like an avg price if the tranny is not trashed.

I hope i didn't sound like I was "bragin" over on the benzworld forum, there tradin1, I just wanted to solicit info on my 406.121.

As to the vehicle, other than a brief stint with a concrete pumping company, it appears to have spent its entire 20 year life in an airplane hanger at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. It has 500 hours and 5000 miles roughly. No rust anywhere, and, of course, the question about the shifter.

Hope this contributes to the discussion.

I passed on one just like it here in Alaska a couple of years back. The guy wanted $17,000 for it. It had more mile and more hours as a snow plow truck, it was also rusty and beat to hell. I think if you wanted a mog that was a good buy.

Thanks, Fabricator

I'm really excited to have it. There are some photos and discussion at benzworld:

Will be seeking help from all sources as soon as we get the clutch replaced.

You asked if there was a big guy bidding up to around $6500. My first bid was about $6500 and I couldn't even look at the other bidders I was so nervous about not getting it. My friend Mark who was with me said that there were a couple of guys bidding, but only one left at $10k.

Sorry for your uncle. But he can get one the excellent MOGS at EuroTruck of the other sellers near here. Hope he does.

I will sell it right now "as is" for $12,500. It needs some of the brake lines replaced as well as the line for the clutch. Or I can restore it to any level you want to a full frame off to any where in between. Photos can be seen here.
