Mog Suspension
Ok, this is for guys running true Unimogs mainly 404's but any will do, no buggys or anything as they are not the same geometry. What kind of suspension changes have you made. New springs shocks etc. How about amount of lift added. I ask, because most of you sound like you run stock run of the mill mogs, but I am sure there are a few of you that have changed a few things. I personally like the fact that my Mog is basically stock, minus the springs and shocks, and a custom bed and roll cage.
I run a relatively stock 404 As for my suspension, I was running the stock springs, with Rancho RS9000 #9012 in the rear, and stock shocks in the front. How ever, I recently moved the rear stock springs to the front, and converted the rear to LR springs. the LR springs are 3+ lift medium duty springs, that I think are rated at 225lbs. the rear feels like a real truck now, but it seems a little to soft, with as much weight as I have on the back side. I still need to reduce the spring rate of the front springs as well. I have dealt with a few people on this subjset, but most are not to helpfull. Any body have any ideas of the spring rates of stock radio body springs. I have thought about using some Jeep Coils from the rear of a new model jeep, probably the maximum lift I can find. It almost looks like they would bolt into the stock spring locks. I had a set of stock Jeep springs to try, but I tossed them before I got a chance to see if the coil was tight enough for the Unimog spring retainers. Anywho, if any of you have any ideas, or have done any spring swaps etc, let me know K.C. Carpenter

springs
I thought I heard someone say they were running TJ springs, but to be honest I think that was a stripped down mog for rockcrawling.

I looked at a set of aerostar coils, but I was not impressed, and did not bother getting them. But does anybody know the spring rate of the TJ coils, or should I go to the jeep forum. I would say my rover springs are a bit soft, but TJ coils might be just as bad. Anybody ride in this Mog on TJ coils. And is he claiming that the springs are 4" lift for a TJ, or 4" lift for the MOG. I am around 3" of lift right now.

A local friend of mine has taken off his springs and shocks and now uses King Coil Shocks and they work great !

yea, I wish I had the cash for KING COILOVERS, but man they get expensive fast. I run FOX 2.0 air shock/spring on my bronco, but it is much lighter than a MOG, and the air shocks would be way to soft.

the ones on his truck are rovertym springs 3+ but they are light for his truck he also had to adapt the spring perches for it to work properly and I think he was trying to avoid that again. Also he's a cheap bastard and although rovertym springs aren't that expensive tj coils are less and aerostar's are even less than that personally I think you should stack two aerostar coils and weld them together then weld them top and bottom to the perches see how that does for ya
