MOG 406 Axle specs needed
I need to get information on MOG 406 axles.
How do they compair strength wise to a 404? Do they share any simular parts to the 404 (brakes, hub gears, ujoints)? Dimensions (WMS to WMS, axle dia and spline, ect)? Lockers stock? What are they worth? Thanks in advance.

They are stronger than 404's. They are allot heavier. They share no signifigant parts with 404 axles. They are roughly 70" wide. 1.76" dia 21 spline axle shafts. 7.something:1 gearing (If they truly are 406 axles).
Air lockers stock. I have been qouted $2500-$3000 for these axles from dealers within the states. I woud take 404 axles over these axles if I didn't plan to run VERY LARGE tires. They are extreme overkill for anything under 40" tires. Still overkill with 44's , but that is probably the route that I would go for confidence sake. Sean |

Thanks for the replies. I am only looking at them because they're cheap. I already have a set of 404 on the way, but deals are hard to pass up.
Sounds like these are early axles, would they have the 21 spline also or course spline?

21 spline 1.76" at the splines.
In other words BIG axle shafts. The axles are extremely beef everywhere. Though they don't look so big anymore when you mount 53" Michelins on them. Sean Last edited by Station; 11-11-2002 at 09:42 PM. |

In my opinion are the 406 axles not stronger than the 404īs. Some parts are slightly stronger like the R&P and the axle shafts.
But the Pinion bearings have a lot more failure than the 404. The U-joints are the same and the hubs are almost the same strenght. Itīs hard to use disc brakes, so the hubs have to live with lot more heat and the seal will fail. I run the 406 axles under my Jeep and never broke a part. The only problems i had several times, were the pinion bearings and the seals. www.killeraxles.com |
