I have a 404 with a very slow starter, is it supposed to be like this? How can i upgrade it, is there a gear reduction starter available or do i just need to replace the one in it? TIA

more details?

Im a slow starter too. Idont have full juice either. My mog... thats fine... its just me thats slow

anyway..... is this on a 24 volt system? If it is military suprlus I assume so. If some one had it between you and when it was surplused did they keep it a 24v system or convert it?

If it is a half assed convertion to 12V u may not be getting fulll juice to the 24v starter.

Its 24v. It just turns over really slow, i haven't had a chance to check and see if its getting enough power or not. Where can i get a new starter or just the solenoid for a decent price if i do need to change it?

Aggie,

Follow this link and click on Texas.

http://www.boschservice.com/public/s...utomotive.html

Any of these shops can get parts for and rebuild your starter.

Before it comes to that, make sure your batteries are hot and that you have good ground. Clean the terminals, etc., etc.

Good luck,

EuroTruck

Now that is how a vendor lends a helping hand... by lending one instead of taking it on as a sales lead.

Hats off to ya.... Goood work. Look forward to seeing you around often.

Yep yep.

Remove, clean and reinstall all cables between the battery and the starter. Works wonders.

Later.
