1978-1979 Ford Power Steering Box

I have a good power steering box for the 78-79 Ford F150. This baby is fresh from the junkyard and hasn't been molested yet. Was going on my rock crawler but I decided to go full hydro. I gave $75.00 for it and spent an hour pulling the S.O.B. I'm asking $100.00 shipped to your location. I've even cleaned it up since I got it. Let me know......

Thanks,
Derek

This is a 4wd box, NOT the big goofy 2wd rear steer box Ford used in those years.

I'm about 90% sure on this...

the f150 p/s box of those years was shared by the 78-79 bronco 100% sure.... however the 250 and 350 had at least 1 other box. 4 bolt push pull style rather than cross over.

so I guess the $21k question is...... is it a 3 bolt front swing pitman box.. or a 4 bolt side swinger?

If it's the 3 bolt box.. it has more value.

You can also swap the worm gear over to make it swing backside standard.

It's the 3 bolt style. I pulled it off a 79 F150, here is a pic of it:

Sorry about the confusion guys, I was told it will fit all models but I KNOW it will fit the F150 as I pulled it myself

I'm pretty interested in this, but I'm a total Ford Steering Newb.
I have an early bronco Frame under my Jeepster and once I get the D44 in it, I need to do the p/s and brakes.

Do I need to swap the guts in this box to make it turn the right way with a rear facing pitman arm? Or will it work as is? This is a street rig, so not worried about hydro assist porting or anything, just a stock pump and 35" tires.

Thanks,
Peter

If the pitman arm needs to swing from the back of the box (ie. the side the steering shaft comes in on) then yes the guts will have to be swapped. Basically this consists of finding an early 80's 2wd F150 box and putting the guts from that box into this one.

This box will however bolt right to your frame in place of the older style push-pull system Ford had in the 60's and early 70's. There is an article on excatly how to do the gut swap somewhere on Pirate. I have read over it before and it is very informative. I would search for it before I attempted it. Hope this helps.

Ok I had a feeling I needed to find another box. Let me look around a bit for the 2wd box and if you still have this one when I find one, I'll prob take it off your hands. Money's tight being unemployed at the moment or I'd take this now and just sit on it, but I have to make sure I can afford both

Thanks

I mount them up all the time w/ the pitman arm forward (obviously not in the stock location). you can move the front end out a ways w/ out interference and offset the coil mounts on the axle rather than moving anything on the frame. it's also nice having a stock replacement box available anywhere.

From my experience with these boxes i'd say it's on the lower end of average. I've definatley seen ALOT worse. Odometer was showing 91,000 miles and judging from the box I'd say that was probably original. I'd bolt this guy on and run it on anything without fear if I had a use for it.

I received a $100.00 payment in my Paypal account today from a gentleman who I haven't spoken with. I can only assume it was someone on Pirate due to the exact amount. Please post up and let me know who you are, if you sent the money on behalf of the party who has already pledged to buy it or what is happening as I have emailed the person who sent the money and they never responded to me.

Thanks,
Derek
