My transfer case is 2.71 to 1 but I am running an SM420 which has a first gear ratio of about 7.21 to 1. Add that to the transfer case ratio and I have almost 10 to 1. Better than a 4 to 1.

Good thing you are not running dual cases. 87:1 is still 87:1, not enough unless you have v8 power. Seems to be a good setup for you or you would have changed it by now. You would prob find it easier to wheel with a doubler, due to fact that you would have the option to slow down in difficult sections. It's a rough ride hitting a ledge a 5mph. That's a knarly 1st gear.
