Warn is a little to expensive. Smittybilt is more in my range. My Montero weighs around 5,000+ pounds. I'd say a 9 or 10,000 pound would work. Any good brands for a decent price?

Warn is way too expensive. There are many other brands out there that will suit you just as well for the money that they cost. I have been searching too and there are a ton on Ebay. I know smittybuilt is supposed to make a good winch.

Quadratec has the Superwinch LP8500 for $300 right now. I've had one for over a year and it has pulled full sized pickups out of tire swallowing mud. For that price it is a no-brainer IMO.

After reading several reviews and chewing on it for weeks, I decided to buy a 9000lb Bandlands winch from HF. I got it for practically my looks. AND it came with a 2 year warranty that covers anything! Gotta finish modifying my winch bumper to get it to fit the Monty and it will be getting used. I took it out of the box and the roller fairleads, switch, cables, bolts, and actual winch look like they are very good quality. From what I have read, I should have a great winch right here.
Just a reminder, do some research before you smack talk. I'd hate to make anyone look like an ass.

I didn't pay over 299 for it and I even got the extended warranty. It was on sale for 369 and since I have an inside track card and actually spend a good bit of money with them, they gave me a deal I couldn't refuse. They hooked me up with employee discount, and military discount. I just got done working on my rig for the last 12 hours getting the winch bumper fabbed up and installed. Hooking up the Winch tomorrow.
Keep in mind that I don't think that they will give a deal like this to everyone...

I bought a HFT 10k for mine to get pulled out of the mud. I paid $255 for mine and it came with the winch channel mouth and a fairlead.
I wouldn't buy one if you winch uphills, long durations, or other risky situations.

I'm gonna use the shit out of it for the next 2 years. If it breaks, I will take it back and get another one. In all honesty, the guy I bought my winch bumper from had one and he was an true advocate to say the least.

The warranty is nice, but the warranty won't help if it breaks when you really need it the most. That's what I was trying to say.

I have a hand winch and a high lift with all the necessary straps, lift mate, base, etc just in case that does happen. Plus I tend to always ride with other like minded people. To me a winch is a luxury that I don't really need, but it is nice to have. I have been in many a situation where a winch would have been great and by most people's standards needed with no other substitute. To me, that's just a challenge. Not much I can't handle without one.

Right on, and that's why I got this one. We had a little snow storm today that allowed me to test it out and after pulling a 4200lb sedan out of a ditch I am greatly pleased with it's performance so far. I know that isn't much of a test, but it did it effortlessly.
