1986 montero 2.6 4 cyl EGR valve questions
hello all, I've searched thoroughly on this forum for an answer before posting this...
I need to get to the EGR valve and hopefully just replace some gaskets to help lines vacuum. Anyone have a good diagram of where exactly EGR valve is? Any directions on how to remove carb to get to it? Also, how easy would it be to physically clean out the carb while I'm down there? I live up in SoCal mountains and bought this car a month ago basically as my 'snow beater'. Like all of you I have always liked the 2 door Montero / Raider. This one runs awesome w/ only 119k original miles, everything is stock, everything works...little rust been in SoCal most of its life. But, it won't pass smog....so I'm going after the EGR valve also, it's factory A/C works great, but it doesn't have a backseat.... it's a factory 2 seater. Anyone have similar and installed a seat? Couple different sets of holes back where seat could go..Anyone have a backseat to sell / trade? thanks, this little Montero is AWESOME so far, anybody know of a place in SoCal that could help me pa$$ smog w/ out a cat conv? |

Get the factory service manual at http://mitsubishilinks.com/. Should have everything you need in it.

The EGR valve is easily removed for replacement/service without removing the carb. Should be located on the front of the intake manifold. Using a pipe cleaner and carb cleaning fluid, you should be able to remove the soot from the EGR valve tube within the manifold.
I have an 86 parts Montero if you require things. Some pieces are interchangeable, but 86 is one of the break years for emissions and carb (non-feedback).
