My Ranger! My Ranger!
Well, not quite. I found a Ranger with Mitsu 4D55 diesel and 4 speed (4th goes missing a lot when shifting. Takes a knack to get it in gear) Thinking about pulling the motor to put into a different rig. I remember from playing with Hyundais and Mitsubishi/D50s that a lot of drivetrain pieces swapped (I did several Hyundai Stellar and Pony motor/trans swaps to D50 pickups)
I read that the 2.6 and diesel bell is the same. I did several 2.6 swap outs (when good motors couldn't be found) for Hyundai 2.0L motors. IIRC there were 2 bell patterns on the motors. Was thinking of swapping the diesel to a Jeep with Stellar bell and re-configured converter on an AW4 auto (the Stellar trans 03-71 has a lot in common with AW4) Now am I totally crazy or will it work? The AW4 is used with Toyota 2LT and other motors too so it's strong enough.

Would the ratios in the AW4 be right for a diesel?

I'm only concerned about the bolt up. Now my buddy is looking at a Toyota 2L because they came stock with AW4.

If I were you I would buy a 4d56 with an auto tranny and an np231 should bolt up with a few slight mods if I remember right.
