89 Raider...3.0 blown.

Story:

On my way to work the other day, a friend ran his Raider out of oil and it seized down the road from the office. He's considering junking it since he only paid $800 to begin with a few years back and he's gotten his use out of it. It's solid, very little rust. I told him to call the junk yards and see what they'll give him for it and I'd meet their price.

I'm wondering if the 3.0 is the same as the general 3.0 from most early 90's CrMoCo's? Is there any other cost effective swap options that don't require a metric ton of cash and maybe move the little brick a little better? I've read about some of the 4G63 turbo swaps, but those were all original 4cyl trucks. Haven't been able to find much information out there for original 3.0 equipped.

I've already got 2 somewhat built Jeeps, but the little Raider seems like a neat project to play with on the cheap.

I drug it back to the office for him, it's locked up tight. Probably easier to just toss another motor in rather than try to work with this one. Should hear something Monday hopefully. Only bad thing is that I broke one of my Jeeps on the trail today...so I'm going to have to make some room in the garage to get them both in.

My kid brother had an '89 3.0 Raider and as far as I could tell it was the same engine block and heads as my fathers 3.0 early 90's caravan.
I don't know what the big difference was in those two engines but my bro's 3.0 sucked donkey bawls and my dad's minivan could smoke the tires off the rims
The van fetched a couple of hundred bucks at the scrap a few years ago and my bro sold his POS to some dumb kid for something like $800... You don't live in Sudbury by any chance, do you??

No, we're down in Michigan. They guy is almost 40...he's got 6 kids and rarely drives it. Guess he had a pretty decent leak he didn't know about.

Where in MI? If you don't have room due to the Jeep work, I might be interested in a project shell. My 87 has enough rust that if I could get a cleaner one for a decent price...
