1989 Dodge Raider Fuel Armor & Bumper Lift

My Fuel tank has been pounded flat ( before the 3 inch lift ) by rocks and stuff. The fuel guage would never register below 1/4 tank anymore too! I decided to do something about this last weekend. Here are the results. I got the idea of the armor from some other guy's rig.

Before.

I pounded out the bottom of the tank where the fuel gauge float rested when at empty. I also noticed that the Fuel Pump had been impacted and slightly distorted! A bigger impact would have wasted it.

The Fuel Armor! 1/4 inch steel. Very heavy...probably too heavy.

The Stock Bolts for the original pan were not enough.

I put in one gallon of gass and saw it raise up a bit!
It is nice to have a woking fuel gauge again.

with the bumper lifted 3 inches.

Ghost, looking good! But i think a gas tank lift is in order, it's not too bad of a job on those trucks.

Hey Sneaky!

My name is Kris and not Ghost. Ghostraider is the name of my rig. but you can call me whatever you like just do not call me late for dinner.

I totally agree with you on that. i am going to cut the frame in the near future and raise it all up 3 inches to gain that extra clearance. I need more practice welding as it will be a big job but worth it.

The Red & The Black

Kris,

I think that "Tyranny and Mutation" is the LP that Blue Öyster Cult put out has two sides of the recod named The Red and The Black, respectively.

Wow Russell...that sent me off to youtube and you know what?

they are playing over the hill in Santa Cruz for Free on the Beach/Boardwalk June 25th. I have marked it on my calendar too.

You Rock Russell. I guess i will rock soon also. old school style!

Yeah i love that red and black paint. the cleaner it is the easier is it for me to see leaks and problems so i can fix them right away. I just love my Rig so i pamper the shit out of it. after every run i clean it from top to bottom and inspect it thouroughly.

here are the blueprints.

first i built a 1/4 plywood template and laid all the steel on it to tack weld it.

I think these plans originally came from a guy on 4x4 wire.

i used 1/4 steel and not 3/16. these plans were originally drawn up for the 2.6 and not the 3.0 but with a little tweaking on the mounting...it will work just fine.
