similarities between...

how similar are the gen1 monteros and the gen1 troopers suspenion systems, as they make a suspension lift for the trooper and not the montero i was hoping they would be similar enough that it wouldnt be difficult to put a calmini 3 inch lift designed for the trooper onto a 87 mitsubishi montero

Troopers are completely different trucks and not at all related to the montero. What tires are you trying to run? you've got other options to run up to 37's without serious modifications.

Calmini cranks the torsion bars, which you can do for free

Crank the TBs and get these shackles, they flex great.

A friend runs a 2" BL and the 2" lift shackle, he rubs his 35s it flexes so well
here is 2 vids of the flex:

Once you lift it, choose your new rims wisely so that you don't rub. I run 35x13.5's with only a 2" bodylift and i don't rub at all and mine flexes nicely but mine is a '99 and those came with larger fenders.

lookin at the math i think (and please correct me if im wrong) that if i run a 33x12.5 with 3.75 inch of backspaceing on the rim the inner lip of the tire will remain close to stock location...and also if i do the TBs the 2 inch shackles and a 2 inch body lift (just for a little extra room) as well as use some extended shocks and trim a little off the bump stops i would get a fairly big increase in flex...right?

You won't get any more flex from the front, only the back. The 2" shackles give you the flex, the TB crank evens out the front with the back, and the 2" body lift gives you more room for tires.

Backspacing sounds good too.
