So my Toy is gonna be out of commission for the winter while i do an interior roll cage for my senior project and some other stuff while its down. To get me through the winter i have a 1990 4 door montero that i picked up from my dads friend for free. he needed it out of his driveway and it didnt run. $300 bucks later i fixed it with an ecm.
good deal right?
so now 2 of the tires leak because i backed over some nails that the dang russians left behind it when i backed out of the driveway. i dont plan on putting much money into this because i plan on selling it in the spring or summer when i get my toy back. i want to put some 30's or maybe 31's on it, fix the heater and the radio and probably just leave like that. it will be a fun rally rig for the snow and ice

ill try to remember to post pics up tomorrow.

yes. shouldn't be a problem. i ran them on my raider with no scraping on fenderwells

33s will clear also no mods......

yes but the 33's tend to scrape when hard turning. at least they did on mine until i lifted it 3 inches.

put a 2" bodylift on it and cut the fenders to run 35s

Why not? Ill almost guarantee you its got lower gears then your toy. 4.625 8in front diff 9in rear.......

I know the car can handle it, im going to sell the thing after i get my truck back on the road. i gotta keep resale value up. and i dont wanna put that much work into it.

just have more than 1 4x4, you could keep the toy for crawling and the montero for expedition style crawling. It´s always good to have more than 1 rig because you never know when one might need to go under the knife or be repaired, as you´re experiencing now.

i dont have the money for 2 hardcore trail rigs. im gonna build up the yota and rally the montero all winter. as far as updates. i still need tires.

took it up in the snow a couple weekends ago. it did pretty good with the factory e-locker. only got it stuck twice. the tires kinda suck

what is an e-locker?

It´s a Toyota thing. Electric actuated locker unlike the Mitsubishi air actuated locker, they both do the same thing (lock the differential)

i haven't really done anything to it
I've been driving it for a while
It only get about 13 mpg's. does that sound right?
and the windshield leaks in the corner so my carpet is soaked.
its been reliable. Just wish it had a little more get up and go

13mpg, is common if you are in the gas alot and hills, 15 is normal.

Windsheild leaks are common also, search 4x4wire forums.

Get up and go...its heavy, brick shaped, low geared, and underpowered. Oh well. DON'T let it overheat and it will run until the damn wheels fall off(as long as the timing belt is changed every 80-100k)
