My Montero
Well I was asked a long time ago for a build thread, but I wasn't far enough along to start one. Now is the time.
What started as an innocent night of drinking lead to a series of truck changing events. My beloved montero started a new life. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now after breaking the front diff and much beer drinking the decision was made to continue on with the weight loss program. ![]() ![]() After more beer, cutting, welding and filler. ![]() ![]()

Its an 89 now with a 91 Gen 2 JDM suspension and diffs.
The idea is that since this truck will not be wheeled to hard I don't need to worry to much about sliders. I have it for 4 years and haven't ruined them yet. So building a beefier rocker was all I needed. I stole the idea off of a friends jeep. He did a 2x6 box tube to replace the rocker panels in his jeep. He tied them into the unibody and suspension mounts. I used a 2x3 box and slit the rocker panel apart. Basically cut a 2" stip out of the rocker. Also drilled a bunch of 3/4" holes threw the back of the rocker. ![]() Then narrowed the front of the tube so it can fit behind the fender. ![]() Welded back into the body and you get this. With a little fender tweaking I will square up the bottom of the fender to match the rocker. ![]() The plan wasn't for it to take all the abuse possible, but for it to save the door if I fuck up. Turns out though that you can lift the truck off the ground by it. I like them and most people that come by the garage don't even notice them. Which is great. Pic of said heep for reference and you can see how his sliders stick out to protect the body more.
