Need a used motorcycle for summer commute $1500

Only requirements is the im looking for:
600cc minimum
Reliable
Prefer no crotch rockets

I've been looking at Honda Shadow, SV650, Bandit, V65, KZ1000,

Anything else you guys would recommend or advise against?

$2000 might be more of a workable number though.

I'm asking $4000, no hits yet, but I haven't put it on criagslist yet, I'll be happy to get $3000, absolute lowest I'd go is $2500, but I live in mass.

You might be able to find a KZ, V65 or Bandit for $1500 that isn't beat but a $1500 SV650 has probably been treated like a red headed step child.
All bikes you mentioned are decent.
A buddy had a couple 1200 Bandits. Put tons of miles on both of them. Pretty comfy for a standard.
The KZ sounds like a good bike as long as it starts, runs right and doesn't smoke. setting up the carbs may be a bitch if they need rebuilt.
A V-65 is getting a little old for a liquid cooled bike. May have some issues.

I had a first year FZ-1, Road it for 35,000 miles with no issue other than keeping the front tire on the ground.
Great bike, runs like a raped ape and handles well. Can be made to handle very well with springs and valving work. The seating position is pretty decent for a 400-500 mile day. Doubt you can find one for under $3,000

you should be able to find a good Jap Bike for around $1500 that runs good. The Honda/Kawasaki cruisers from 1986-1996 should be in that price range. You can also pick up some Ninja's 250cc-600cc that get great gas mileage and are more upright/comfy than some of the other crotch rockets.

Going to look at a cherry KZ1000 next weekend, fingers crossed

Bought the ex cop bike.



1996 Kawasaki KZ1000 32,000 miles, new Metzler tires, new brakes, new fluids... Talked him down to $1200.

First thing after getting it home I put about 200 miles on it. No problems.



I then cut about 10" out of the windshield and shaped it to blend with the fairing.




Now I need to figure out a paint job. Thinking of either black with red pin striping, or maybe metalflake navy blue. Any other ideas?

Also planning to ditch the stock bars and locate some lower euro or drag style bars (lots of room to work with either way.

Strip it clean, paint it jet black, add drag bars and a KerKer exhaust
