Training for First Race???

Ok, old guy here wants to try to 'race'.

Albeit, I know that I'm not going to win, more the point of just going out there and wanting to prove to myself I can do it.

Never raced before, and I'm 41 with an old KTM Desert Race bike (600 four stroke).

I'm thinking GNCC (old guy class), or Hare scramble (Again, old guy class). My question is training.

Running? Jogging? Pushups? Eating healthy.....

Any type of 'bike riding' specific exercises to help me with my cause (arm pump, etc).

Thoughts? TIA

Out

Just ride.

and then ride somemore.

and then ride again.

then go for another ride.

If you want to do an entire series you have to finish all the races. The best thing would be just to get use to riding the bike for 70 + miles without resting while having fun.

Here's one suggestion, drop the freaking gearing if it's set up high. That is more than likely what killed my first race attempt earlier this year. Couldn't keep the damn thing running because of it.

Also, do some exercise. I've got to get back into my routine since I found out when my next two races are going to be in September and October. It will definitely help come race time and with recovery.
