Which service manual
Just picked a '98 Polaris Xplorer 300 4x4 up for $50. Guy ran the engine low on oil two years ago, kept it with the intention of fixing it, took it apart and never got around to actually fixing anything and then lost his job a few months back; so he just wanted it out of there. I know its not a really desirable ATV; but it'll be fine for me to pull a little dump wagon around the yard for yard work and tool around in the 6 acres of woods w/ ravine at the end of the property.
When I rebuilt my truck's engine, I ponied up for the OEM $$$ service manual. Is this necessary for an ATV considering they're much less complex in design, or will the Haynes cut it? I found these two: http://www.repairmanual.com/motorcyc...54/0/7539/9348 http://www.sideroadcycles.com/Misc/M...olarisATV.html Quite a price gap there. The only thing that makes me really want the factory manual is that I acquired the engine as a pile of parts in a plastic tub. Taking something apart and putting it back together is one thing... figuring out a random pile of parts and hardware you have no prior experience with is something completely different. Anything I should watch out for in regards to servicing ATV engines that I wouldn't know from passenger vehicles? Particularly anything with that particular model (Polaris 300)?
