Got it for $200 , just needs fifth gear replaced. Has new suspension though. And may need new top end. What should I expect to pay to have the top end rebuilt and fifth gear replaced.
Thanks, Eric

Get a book on it and do the work yourself. Bikes are easy to work on but as far as parts go I would say get an issue of Motocross action and look at the adds and they will list top end prices.

I just rebuilt my wife's top end on her CR125 a few months ago. I think the total cost was about $120 including all the parts, coolant, cleaning supplies. I order my top end kits(Wiseco) from MotoSport Outlet. No tax and free shipping. They have CR250 top end kits for $120.

Cool! Thanks guys.
Yeah, the guy is a friend of my sisters, and he just rebuilt the suspension, and had the motor all torn apart to fix fifth gear, but he got a new job and doesnt want to get hurt, so he said he would give it up for $200 the way it is. I'm stoked.

The top end isn't a problem..I just hardly hear of having to split a Honda case. Like they say, get the service manual! The biggest problem with opening the case is people forget the part sequence, and or parts, but with a service manual and lots of "before" pics of teardown, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. It would be a good time to look a bearings and crank seals...
I used to ride a 93 CR 250, it was a great bike.

DUDE IF I WAS YOU ID HAVE SOMEBODY QUALIFIED DO THE GEAR REPLACEMENT, I'VE SPLIT THE CASE ON MY '89 CR250 AND I HAD TO END UP CALLING MY BUDDYFOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.
THE TOP END IS SIMPLE DEPENDING ON HOW MANY TIMES ITS BEEN BORED. ID SLEEVE IT IF ITS PAST.060 OVER BUT YOU CAN GO AS HIGH AS .080 OVER PISTONS. THE SLEEVE RETAILS FOR ABOUT $90 AND ANOTHER $100 IN PISTON, CIRCLIPS, BEARINGS, ROD (OPTIONAL),RINGS YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE SLEEVE MACHINED IN, COSTS ABOUT $80 GOOD LUCK WITH THE BIKE, IVE GOT A '89 AND I LOVE IT BUT ITS FOR SALE IF YOU KNOW ANYBODY LOOKING. |

AYE STOP YELLING!!!!!
I think those bikes have that NICICEL (or what ever) lining in the cyclinder that is harder than the piston and rings, so the bore should "still" be good

Yeah, I'm probably going to have the gears replaced by a professional. Anybody know a good local or Sac. Mechanic with good rates.
Thanks, Eric

You should get the factory Honda service manual and go for it your self... get a bunch of zip lock baggies to keep organised and your there, worst case is you take it all to someone else and they help you put it back together, but your still going to need the manual...
I rebuilt a 85 CR125 tans when I was 15 with the book (and a little bit of help) and it wasnt that hard......
