well first off they arent getting it back
well the red sticker is supposed to be given to any bikes made after '96. it means you can only ride during certain parts of the year, your local ohv has a list of riding seasons for red stickers
they arent getting it back

chazzy it has to do with air quality there are only a few bikes that are epa legal for a green sticker. the rest get red ones. during certain times of the year you cannot ride a red sticky bike at the parks or in the forest. the green sticky bikes can go year round. 96 and earlier are grandfathered in so they get green

I believe this is a 2 stroke, 4 stroke thing. My sons JR 50 has a red sticker but they always let him ride at Prarie City.

Unhappy

This sure is a complicated issue... It's NOT a 2 vs. 4-stroke thing!! it's a EPA thing if the bike is "smog" legal it gets a green sticker, if it's not "smog" legal it gets a red.

I've tried reading through all the crap and what it boils down too is if a bike is non-EPA legal, the VIN number IS different. that all was suppose to start with the 97 model years... but they really started paying attention in 99/2000. AND it was only going to affect riding during the "save the air days"??? but that part hasnt been in writing for awhile....

I work with a guy who got a green sticker and license plate for his Suzuki DRZ400!! Then the DMV revoked it and sent him a red sticker!!!

I have a 2001 PW50 for my kids and I got a red sticker for it, I sent it back and asked for a refund (Ya right) and sent my $$ to Oregon to get one of their off road permit's

I do beleive they will catch their mistake and ask/demand for it back..... my advice get it street legal through the state of Vermont you can do it all through the mail LOL or get a Oregon off road permit

thats why I'm keepin my st legal 95 CR500

You know, I just got the Green sticker for my 97 CR 250 also, but them my friend has a 96 CR500, and he had to get a red sticker. Why are only some of us getting greens? Anyone know what is going on with that?

marie, did you buy your bike new? if so your probly got a green cuz it was early in the new model year. did your friend buy the 500 from someone? if so theres no gaurantee that the green will transfer over to the new owners. plus the higher displacment bikes are more prone to getting them ive found. im just happy i got a green. and ive never heard of anyone getting it taken back, atleast around here. plus if it does, i always got the pink to the 1990 bike

Was he able to keep the plate\street legal registration?

I am thinking of getting a DRZ400e to commute to work on. Would be very nice.
There are a few OHV parks around here.

It would just suck if I got this bike then later had the street plates pulled

Maybe next year the DRZ will have the smog crap.

I just found out about doing it that way yesterday. I might even have a friend register mine out of state at first when I get one.

I have heard all this Vermont stuff second hand... so I dont really want to spread any shit around... BUT.. on the last dual sport my friends went on there were WAY too many bikes from Vermont for it to be just a rummor.... Try calling the tec line at Baja Degsigns, there great on the phone and your going to need a sourse of power anyhow.... and a light or two
