1987 toyota Mud Truck...350 engine swap build

Okay I figured I might as well post this build since its hard to find a lot of pics and information on the IFS 350 toyota builds. Bought this truck 2 years ago for 500 dollars..It was sitting on some wore out 35's, but had detroit lockers front and rear and 4.88 gears and the suspension and body lift already. I started running it in 2010 in the stock class and had it painted last year after I added the tacoma bed....This past august the motor threw a #2 rod, so thats what got the 350 build started.

Okay here is the video for the one pass in august..It already had a little knock before the race started..So advanced the total timing to 34 degrees and drained the tank and put 2 gallons of VP 110 fuel ( only because I had been accused of running alcohol the month before.

Okay after going thru 4 four bolt main 350 blocks and all being bad I found a complete motor on craigs list that helped two guys out...He needed money and I needed a motor...Plan is to run Schoenfeld tractor/truck pull headers for exhaust...Will post pics as the build goes along....Oh already took it outside and washed it down to have a clean restart cause I hated all that mud in my eyes...

Its a 2 piece 4 bolt main, 5.7 rods, 30 over speed pro flat tops with 2 valve relief, brodix spec aluminum heads w/ 2.02/1.60 valves, R294/300 Reed solid roller cam, 1.5/1.6 roller rockers, aluminum intake and complete serp built setup. Will be going with TH350 and 4000 stall adapted to the toyota gear drive T case...

Well had a little issue this past weekend. The engine builder forgot to install a galley plug that was under the drivers side rear of head that went straight to the bottom end. So tore the motor all the way down to short block double checking everything...I now know what s exactly in the engine and know that everything is right...here is some pics of the other parts inside...

Well I have talked to lots of builders and they say the toyota gear drive t case is tough...I am going to try and run it this season then next year go 205 and dana 60's, but I have talked with a couple guys that run the gear drive t case and run biggger tires than me and say its no problem but will cross that bridge when it comes...Just hope we can make this season before we shed something in the drive train...

Oh got the stall convertor today and its a 4500...I used to work for a place that builds there on trannys and has a convertor shop...I bought a 10 inch kit and they built me a tough ass stall...They say with the low gears and running low range that I want really feel a true 4500 stall....I will post videos hopefully in the next couple weeks....

I used to race with a Suzuki Sammy that had a 383 stroker, powerglide, and a yota t-case. The 383 was easily over 600 horsepower, I think it was a 4500 converter in the glide. It was fast as fuck.

You're gonna hate that predator with a passion...hunk of junk...may as well not even bother and just send it to me...

Nice yota crusier...What you using for air intake?? What size of cam setup did you have.....Not sure I am going to give it that much on the first few races...Going to set the limiter around 6300 to not hurt it....

Looking good snop. We ran a roller cam in the 500 lift range. You going to go with upright headers? We had a little problem with drivers side the steering shaft. Keep posting the build.

My motor has a 651/667gross lift solid roller Reed cam..Yes we ordered the schoebfeld vertical headers that kick forward for the brake booster. Do you have any pics how your got around the steering shaft??? I was looking at that today and was hoping with the kick forward ones it might miss the steering shaft...

Well had issues with the predator carb. Never would run kept flooding out and wouldn't take fuel. I called Predator and they told me what to check to see if it getting bumped around in shipping could have caused some issues. I took it apart and followed the manual settings from the book and when I put it back on it started right up and idled somewhat high but once I get the leaking radiator back in I will fine tune the carb...

Thanks for the offer but I have already gotten a adapter, but waiting on builder to find time to finish the transmission. All he likes is kitting the valve body and we are installing a transmission and hearing it run and fine tunning this bad boy..

Okay guys trucks together and 1st test and tune run...Was running it in 4 High and just feeling her out...she feels real good but going to have to buy a new shifter...the one I was donated by another mud bogger doesn't have 3rd gear/neutral lock, so I hit neutral a couple times....
