Engine bays in particular.

I was at some local mud races a few years back and was checking some of the racers. It seemed the entire engine was encapsulated in sheet metal with louvers on the sides. When they would pop the hood in the pits, the mills didnt have a spec of mud on them.

Lets see how some of you guys do it!

I would like to see this as well, as I am working on a mechanical fuel injection system for my bigger waggy. For those who don't know - the fuel pump is driven by a toothed belt at the front of the engine... and for now, it looks like my fuel pump will be pretty low...

I will have to make a guard/cover/something, would like to see what others are doing.

Not that I am a 'mudder' or anything... but there is almost always mud on every local trail we run....

Sheet metal is the way to go. The budget way is to use a tractor tire tube and sheet metal screws with washers, also shower pan can be bought at lowes or home depot and it holds up good to heat and chemicals, it comes 4ft by however long and is easier to use than the inner tube because it's flat. I will post pics of my engine once the truck is done.

my secret is the rubber shower liner you put down under your shower it holds up to oil and stuff my motor stays clean

Im using rubber floor mat stuff, with a diamond plate design. FREE from work.

No pics yet, but I'll get some. Pop-riveted and/or screwed underneath and in the wheel wells.

WE ALSO USE SHOWER PAN LINER , SHEET METAL & THEY SELL BUCKETS AT WALMART IN THE HOUSE HOLD SECTION WITH ROPE HANDLES ON THEM ........... YOU CUT THE TOPS OFF OF THE BUCKET TO FIT OVER YOUR CARB & BREATHER KEEPS WATER OUT GREAT !!!

so do you guys run anything on the bottom of the motor or just the sides? I play in the mud a time or two a year and would like to make it cleaner in the engine bay.

also what are all you guys runnin as far as intakes? do you run anything special on the air cleaner to help with any water that splashes up?

Once a tire catches on fire its extremely difficult to put out I would say just on the basis of allowing people to put a fire out while trying to get you out of the vehicle you would avoid the tire technique

Pfttt, I only use the finest coke 12 pack cardboard ziptied to the inner fender. Lasted 2 days out at Okeechobee Mudfest and kept the Rad from clogging.

i used a rubber bed mat under my toy mud truck and cut to fit from the bottom of the rad all the way back to thebellhousing and up the the inner fenders and riveted/bolted it in place....

have also had good luck with lighter weight conveyor belt material.

also have made some spash guard to mount onthe grill out of the same conveyor belt to keep mud and water from going directly through into the rad and theres still enough room for air to get by the outside to cool the engine...

another thing that helps is to get some expanding foam in a can and fill any and all gaps in the core support, inner fenders, betweenthe mat and frame so nothing can get in there...

Also if the pit is extrememly wet it helps to duct tape the hood to fender gaps as well as the hood to grille gap to keep the water out....

one more thing, distrubutor boots and dielectric grease are your friend as well as wd40...

lastly if you want a cheap way to keep your open element airfilter dry, go get a cheap yellow palstic oilchange pan and a long aircleaner and cut to fit the pan upside down over the airfilter, it wont hurt performance and will keep the filter clean and dry much longer

hey moveaside he means an inner tube not a tire. a tire would be to stiff and heavy the inner tube is light and in the event of a fire it would burn really quick

Yeah, parts are on order for the steering.

Just slapped this set together for a mud run. Actually works well, but could be much better.
