4l or 4h

I'm running in some mud drags this up coming weekend. I usually run 4L in 3rd or 4th gear(it's a 5sp) I was thinking of running in 4H though what do you guys recommend.

it's a 04 TJ with 5:13 gears, a 4.3:1 atlas, 36" iroks.

4h and 1rst.

its a question of power vrs power band vrs length of track vrs ratio.

ie: far end of the track [150'+/-] and you hit the red line, good.

half pass and you hit red line. wasted rpm/wheel speed.

let the clutch outand it bogs down you wont get the momentum needed if its deep, wont hit be red lined a the end, not enough wheel speed.

I don't think I'll make it to the end of the track. Last year there was plenty of guys runnin 40+ in tires that didn't make it.

If you're runnin the 4.0L you'll likely wanna use 4L, pick the highest gear that you can launch in and feel it out from there. If it ends up being not too thick and you're cruisin it pretty easy then ya might wanna try 4HI

I would find the gear ratio's for my transmission and see what gear in hi matches what gear I was running low with that 4to1 atlas and go from there.
