What caused the breakage? Just old parts or too much truck for one shock per corner? Taurus used 2 per corner, correct?

Are the 50 spline u joint shafts forged or machined from a giant bar? Forging would save a lot of material but I wasn't aware that the market was big enough for the production.

The first sets started as billet but he just spent the dough on forging dies and will be using new forgings very shortly to make them and yes it will save a whole lot of time. plus with the forgings he had them made so he can use the same ones to make just about any size and spline shaft you want be it a 5 ton or planetary or what ever.

So on the 50 spline shafts, rough price for stubs and inners and for a detroit? I do not even remotly need them now but, probably will in the future. It would be nice to have a idea on what to start puttin away.

Pricey according to his site.

"Featuring:
2 9/16" diameter 50 spline shaft
"Gearhart Engineering Exclusive" U joint
featuring 2 1/4" diameter bearing cap
$3,500 per kit with spool or $3,900 per kit with locker"

So x2 and you're looking at around 8k.

Just for comparison, on a 2.5t what does a set of violater shafts, ujoints, and ultralocker set you back from Ouverson? $3100ish an axle plus machine work?

This is off a price list I got from Ouverson last week

Front conversion kit $2350
Rear $1520

Add $800 to the front kit if you want gun drilled shafts and lockouts
Add $150 plus shipping if you want him to machine your carrier halfs

All this is a moot point to the the original poster. There is no way 2.5 tons would survive under that beast. One day I will have my own personal monster truck like his. LoL

Yeah, the Gearhart stuff isn't too bad of a price considering. If you want to run 70+" tires, you gotta pay. Of course you could run PS250 or Clark planetary ends for half the price. But then you have the whole weight (turning a 1200 lbs. axle into a 2500 lbs axle) and hp sappage issue. If you're shooting for something (relatively) lightweight like Adam, then the Gearhart stuff is a logical choice.

Hit some of the junkyards around here. Clarks, Pettibones, Case, etc. Lifts, loaders, forklifts, etc. You'd be in heaven. All scrap price.

lol I guess a rachet strap and a bungee wasn't enough to hold the hood down.

Here are some pics of the new axles I'm preppin to go in it soon.

These are the kingpin supports Gearhart made for me these are some HD mofo's.

In this pic there is a helmet on the chunk but I'm not using it. My top bars will be parallel and hook to stands built on either side of the chunk.

Also next step is I'm building full steel plate knuckles to replace the cast steel factory ones. it'll also have dual steering rams and wheel tethers plus brand new 10.26 gearsets in the chunks. And I also have the HD 5ton spindles for on them also. They should be pretty tough when I'm done.

Ya know my 5 ton 79 bronco needs to go. This thread needs to be renamed as ever red necks wet dream. I think that would be much more fitting.
