Tire groover questions
I want to cut the small lugs out of my boggers. What is the best way to do this with a sawzall or a tire groover. I was thinking about buying one of the cheap ebay tire groovers but they list different size and numbers for the tips which ones should i get with it.

i have grooved a couple sets for the dirt drags we do here. i start by taking a sawzall with a wood blade to the lil lugs. then i clean em up with a tire groover. i also shave down the back side of the middle lug and the large lug usually.
here is a side view picture of what i do to the lugs to shave them down. this is the first set of tires i ever cut and grooved. i since have learned to use wider blades haha ![]() this is a top down look of the lugs. i finished one half of the tire and started on the other side. on this truck i didnt shave the big lugs because it was my first time doing it and i wanted to test it out. they seem to bite hard with the big lugs left alone. ![]() after we finish the rebuildin the engine over the winter im goin to groove the tires again now that im more confident in doing so and try to shave more weight off the tires. i hope this helps

yea those are some nice lookin cut tires. mine i just used a 50 dollar tire groover from speedwaymotors.com and i learned to use the 1/2 inch blades on the groover. does a much cleaner job. a wood blade on the sawzall will cut the lil lugs out pretty good.. just cant do a real clean job with it though... if you wanna have it done proffessional go with them guys though...

Super-cheap. Wood Chisel, Mallet, and a Torch.
A little labor intensive

Worn out Sawzall blade sharpened like a knife edge.... once it gets hot it works well... also helps to have the tires warm as well

O.k. i used the sawzall method and did all 4 of my tires today. It took about a hour a tire with a old 6" metal blade sharpened like a knife. It did alright but i'm thinking about buying a tire grinding disc like the circle track racers use to clean up the area between the lugs.
