Methanol ??

We run methanol in our mud drag truck and have a 55 gallon drum 1/2 full
but its like 8 months old now, cause the truck isnt done yet
does anyone know how long it keeps ??

We don't want to put it in our new truck, if it's bad ????

Thanks in advance

Has the drum been sealed up, or have you let it collect all that florida humidity for the last 8 months? If you had the caps on it all this time, I would say run it.

I'm not sure if methanol actually goes bad or not. Most distributors say it has a 1 year shelf life in a sealed container. Methanol in an unsealed container will absorb moisture so after 8 months yours probably has some water in it. I have used methanol that was more than a year old for making biodiesel and it worked fine. But i never planned on using the methanol in an engine.

I wouldn't use it but that's me. Risk vs reward isn't there.

very true !!

We decided not to use it, but put it in cans and it looked fine.
our team mate said he wanted it .......so we gave it to him.

So i guess we will find out in time how that goes.
