Hello. I have done a search looking for vendors who make kits to put a Dana 60 under the front of my 2003 Chevy 2500HD. There is Off Road Unlimited and I have found 4wdfactory.com. Is there any other options I should look into? I have a just rebuilt D60 w/4.56's & a Detroit &new brakes, etc. This is the second or third time I am not taking my trailer to the snow for my Thanksgiving holiday because it is a 2x4. I have a rebuilt/divorced 205 and access to good drive shafts that only need shortening. I would like some 35 inch tires and minimal lift so it is easy to load the kids/dogs/explosives/Crack-cocaine/whatever into.
Please don't tell me to sell my truck and by a 4x4. I love this truck, it is like my long lost Golden Retriever. I also can't go into my garage and fabricate any of this crap myself. I need bolt-on crap.
Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated?
Here is one of the sites, this seems like a cool kit:
I have a friend with this same truck, that would like to do an SAS rather than replace all the components in his IFS.
Are there any kits that will work with later model Ford fronts?
This is what I found. I emailed sky manufacturing and asked if they had a kit for the 2001-2006 2500/3500's. He e-mailed this back:
"It may be possible. I think we can cut the brackets that hang the shackles down a 1/2 inch on each side and it should fit."
I thought that was cool of them. This is what I am wanting to do, I am just waiting to have some cash ready to go (3 kids and a big family makes Christmas expensive).
Here is a link to the page w/the photos for the 1987-2000 kit I contacted them about (notice it is usually $399, but right now it is $299).
I sse you found Sky Mfg, I was going to suggest looking at them. ORU was one of the pioneers in offering bolt on SAS kits for IFS Chevys, but they are $$$. The 4wd factory kit looks pretty good, too.
The cheaper kits (4WD factory and Sky Mfg) are going to require a bit more fab work, the ORU kit is more inclusive but overpriced IMHO. BUT...if you don't have the shop/and or fab skills...
I haven't installed any of the above kits, but I like the way Sky Mfg ties the front hangers together with a solid crossmember. Also, compare how the kits mount the shackle, that's where the frame changes shape, so you want it to tie in securely.
If you do a little reading (search SAS in the Chevy section) you'll see many different ways to do it, (the simplest is leaf springs, or you do radius arms, or multi-link suspension). If you really want to drop some $$$ check out Chopperman's build thread using a XXX Fab "kit' it's :grinpimp:
I have seen quite a few of them done there while working on my junk
