disadvantages of spacers/adapters?

I'm thinking of running stock h1 wheels on a 5x5.5 hp44/9 combo with adapters. Will that be ok?

The issue is that it adds a bunch of leverage from the tire to the hub. With the h1 rims, it is too easy to get the center cut out and the correct pattern/offset put in. There are several pbb vendors that will do that for you if you don't currently have the rims.

There is no more leverage from the tire to the hub using a spacer vs. a custom offset wheel. To put it a little more accurately, the leverage is the same whether you have a 3.5" backspaced wheel or whether you have a 6.5" bs wheel with a 3" spacer; the center of the tire and wheel is the same.

With spacers there would be more load at the wheel studs.

With a smaller backspace there is more load on the rim shell to wheel center.

HOWEVER the bigger issue you need to worry about with wheel spacers or a small backspaced wheel is the change of scrub. Excessive scrub will cause the wheel/tire to sweep as it turns. A proper scrub will allow the tire to turn on the axles axis point (or close to it).

If you are going to run spacers, get good quality spacers.
